Details of Disappearance
Elmquist disappeared from Iowa City, Iowa on November 16, 1979. He has never been heard from again. The following day, his blue 1961 GMC van was found parked in the University of Iowa Hydraulics Laboratory storage lot. Elmquist's case remains unsolved.

Here is where his car was located. The car was in the parking lot of the Hydraulics Lab. Did have a reason to be there? Did he drown himself? Accident or suicide? There is another Charles Elmquist from Des Moines - I wonder if this is him? Or the missing Charles R. Elmquist? Charles R. was a contractor by trade, so he may have had reason to be there, but Charles R is from Iowa City. It may just be a coincidence.

There is another Charles Elmquist from Des Moines - I wonder if this is him? Or the missing Charles R. Elmquist? Charles R. was a contractor by trade, so he may have had reason to be there, but Charles R is from Iowa City. It may just be a coincidence.

I mean, Iowa City is where the University of Iowa is, so it's a magnet for young people from all over the state, and it's a place where there are good hospitals and services generally, as state university cities often are everywhere. Above the hydraulics building in the picture above you can see the Veteran's Administration facilities. I don't know if he was a vet or not, but if he were it might explain why his van would have been parked in the same place twice.
