Sheriff's officials believe they have found the area along Highway 95 where they believe a 54-year-old Boise man and his vehicle went into the Salmon River.

On Sunday, the sheriff's office received a report from a citizen that the license plate for French's vehicle had been found, and there was evidence that the vehicle went into the river near milepost 201.5 on Highway 95.

Deputies confirmed the information, and officials believe that French and the vehicle are submerged in the river in that area.

However, river conditions are preventing the recovery of the man and his vehicle.

The sheriff's office said the dive team estimates that that it will be about 30 days before river conditions are safe enough for divers to search the river.

Human remains discovered along the Salmon River this week may be related to one of two recent missing person cases currently open with the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office. #Narrowing down or perhaps confirming identification is pending outsourced testing.

#Investigators suspect remains belong to one of two drowning accident victims:

#• John “Randy” French, 54, of Boise, who failed to return home from a Riggins fishing trip July 1 of this year. Evidence discovered July 9 led investigators to suspect his red 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche went into the Salmon River near Fiddle Creek, milepost 201.5, on U.S. Highway 95.
#• Cayla Danenberg, 20, of Nampa, was one of two fatalities in a May 17, 2016, single vehicle accident into the Salmon River three miles south of Slate Creek on U.S. 95. Also killed was Tiffany Maupin, 21, of Nampa, whose body was subsequently recovered.
#“Based on finding the remains below the high-water mark, we’re assuming it’s one of our missing persons,” said ICSO Detective Jerry Johnson.
#“And based on the remains, it’s probably Cayla,” he said.

Just saw this update when I was reading an article for another thread:

Remains found in Salmon River are those of Nampa woman

The Idaho County coroner says human remains found by hunters along the banks of the Salmon River Monday are those of a Nampa woman missing for nearly a year and a half.

Danenberg’s remains were found Monday afternoon near the bridge at the junction of Rice Creek and Grave Creek roads. The coroner says a forensic expert from Oregon was able to positively identify the remains as Danenberg through dental records.
There is still another missing person from the Treasure Valley believed to be in the Salmon River.

John “Randy” French, 54, of Boise, was reported missing in early July after failing to return from a fishing trip near Riggins. Sheriff's deputies found evidence that his vehicle went off U.S. 95 into the river near milepost 201.

Remains of a human arm found along Salmon River

Johnson said very little tissue remained on the bone, but it appears to be part of a human forearm extending from the shoulder to the knuckles.

"It was located in some brush along the river about the high-water mark," Johnson said. "We're not sure if it was deposited during this high water or a previous year. It seemed like some bleaching on one of the bones may have been there since last spring's high water."

John Randall French, 54, of Boise, has been missing since he failed to return home from a Riggins fishing trip July 1. French's vehicle was found in the Salmon River near milepost 201 at Fiddle Creek, along U.S. Highway 95.

Friends will gather Saturday at missing Boise man’s favorite pub

Randy French’s family held out hope for almost a year and a half that he would be found.

Authorities believe the 54-year-old, who worked at the Idaho Tax Commission in Boise, crashed his truck into the Salmon River north of Riggins on June 30 last year.

But after countless hours of searching along the banks of the river in Idaho County and several dive team attempts to find him in the water, they have decided its time to hold the memorial service that they put off in the hopes of finding his body.

[...]

The private search for French was extensive, costing between $20,000 and $30,000, Sherry French estimated. The Minnesota-based Jon Francis Foundation provided financial assistance and resources, bringing in search teams, cadaver dogs and a professional swift water dive team.

The discovery of a human hand along the Salmon River earlier this month is suspected to be that of Boise resident, John Randall “Randy” French, 54, who went missing in July 2017 while on a fishing trip in the Riggins area.

According to Detective Jerry Johnson, Idaho County Sheriff’s Office, a woman found the hand Sunday afternoon, Jan. 5, on the riverbank at Pealy Loop, located less than half a mile upriver from Skookumchuck. ICSO Deputy Mike Brewster investigated the incident and recovered a left hand and ulna, held together with remaining skin and ligaments. The remains, he said, appeared consistent with those being two and a half to three years in age.

Idaho County Sheriff Doug Giddings told The Lewiston Tribune Wednesday that the skeletal remains of a human hand have been sent to the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification.

Giddings said it could be months before the results are known, but he believes the bones are likely that of 54-year-old John Randall French, who drove into the river three years ago.

The remains were discovered Jan. 5 near Skookumchuck by a woman who was recreating in the area. Giddings said French is the only known missing person in the area.
