there was an episode of American Experience that aired last week on PBS called Mr Tornado

its about the history of Tornado and Severe weather science and its godfather Ted Fujita

its really an amazing watch and it has Ted's friend and colleague Dr Greg Forbes narates quite a lot of the show which is amazing because he is just as valuable as Ted was, you may know him from his time on The weather channel

but its really worth seeking out on the PBS site and watching how Ted made his discoveries and how the F Scale was created

Hurricanes and tornadoes are incredible shows of nature's force. Often destructive and can cause a lot of death and destruction.

One of the most fascinating videos I have ever seen was from Jeff Piotrowski who has chased Hurricanes for 35 years and he did live broadcasting in a hurricane that had 140 MPH winds. Link below. I was watching him live at the time. It is amazing and really shows how fast winds can get in a hurricane.

Tornadoes and hurricanes can have incredible winds and it is hard to understand how fast the winds really are. This video does a good job of giving someone a sense of how fast the winds are. When rain goes sideways you know you are in strong winds.

i actually watched that pericope live when it happened, as i follow Jeff and have followed him for his tornado chasing as well for many many years, he does some great live shots while out chasing storms
