On Oct. 27, just before 7:30 p.m., Chicago police investigators responded to a luxury hi-rise condo in the 1200 block of South Prairie Avenue, where Beckerink lived. Witnesses told police that her body was found just below her husband’s condo unit.

The 36-year-old’s severed foot was reportedly discovered at the bottom of a stairwell.

The parents of a woman found dead in a South Loop apartment building can bury their daughter after a judge denied her husband’s latest efforts to delay a funeral and reclaim custody of her remains.

Underneath a photo of Caitlyn in the above DM article it says: “she died after falling down 24 flights of stairs”

I am of the opinion that it would be virtually impossible for anybody to fall down 24 “flights” of stairs in a modern condominium or office tower - as at some point your “tumble” would be halted by a stair landing.

I suppose that if a stairwell had an open-center configuration, more like spiral where you could see all the way down to the bottom - one could “fall” (free fall) 24 stories and then land on the bottom floor. Imo this stair configuration is not common in modern high rise condo buildings.

And where was the severed foot found, on a different landing than the body? I think that if a foot of a body tumbling down “flights” of stairs got caught between a handrail or handrail support and the wall or landing, it would also halt any “tumble”.

So, imo, either the article is poorly worded and inadequately describes what happened - or she fell 24 floors down the center of an open-shafted stairwell - a free fall - more like if she had been pushed or thrown over the railing of the 24th floor landing or balcony.

Older article but the end gives an overview of two court cases still pending against the husband:

Two domestic violence cases against Beckerink in Berrien County remain pending, both from 2024 and with Tracey listed as the victim.

On Oct. 21, a status conference was held for the most recent case regarding an August incident that took place in New Buffalo. Beckerink is alleged to have assaulted Tracey, interfered with her attempt to call 911 and then violently resisted arrest once police officers arrived, according to court records.
A jury trial for the case, in which Beckerink faces felony charges for resisting arrest in addition to a domestic violence charge, was initially scheduled to begin on Oct. 29 but will now take place in January 2025.

The other case pending is from a January incident, with charges including multiple felonies — larceny over $20,000, larceny in a building and interference with an electronic communication device causing injury or death — and domestic violence.

Lantz goes on to recall: "Apparently then he went around to the sunroom in the back of the house and came in. She tried to run and get away from him and she describes hiding underneath the dining room table. She described him pulling her out by her hair. She described at some point during all of this, grabbing her phone and calling 911."

Police seized Beckerink's cell phone, and documents filed by his attorney to get it back say Chicago investigators claim "it was on 'investigative hold.'" His cell phone is now part of his wife's death investigation that's still underway by Chicago police detectives.

Beckerink's trial on the aggravated abuse charges in Michigan is scheduled to start April 15.
