Boat Found in Harbor, Hammond police said the three missing hunters were presumed drowned.
They are Charles Umlauf, 25, of 4720 Wilson st, Calumet township, a brother of State Trooper Richard Umlauf of the Schererville post; Charles Overton, 23, of 5338 Wilson st, Calumet township, and John Pate, 26, of 4434 Pine av., Hammond. Their 14-foot plywood boat, equipped with an outboard motor, was found at the south end of the government pier that forms the entrance to Calumet harbor. The two cars and a truck the men drove Monday when they left home to go hunting in Lake Michigan were found Monday night in Hammond near Commonwealth Edison company's state line generating plant at 103d street and the lake. . Police said the three men apparently pushed their boat over approximately 200 feet of ice into the open waters of Lake Michigan. They said the boat could have capsized in the lake and floated down the river toward the harbor.

Three men, missing and presumed dead after a hunting trip. No further info.
