CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - A man’s body was found in the water Monday evening near Rainbow Beach in the South Shore neighborhood.
About 5:50 p.m., someone saw the body in the water near the beach’s shoreline in the 7500 block of South Lake Shore Drive, according to Chicago police. The body of the man, who was thought to be between 45 and 55 years old, was then pulled from the water.

Someone found the body underneath a rock formation in the water just east of the 7500 block of South Shore Drive in the South Shore neighborhood around 5:50 p.m., according to Officer Michelle Tannehill, a police spokeswoman. The spot is near the Powell Paideia Community Academy.
Officers from the Police Department’s marine unit helped remove the body from the water. It was unclear whether the body showed any signs of physical trauma.
An autopsy scheduled for Tuesday could determine how the victim, whose age remained unknown, died.

Police said it’s not clear how long the body had been in the water, or how it got there.
“The water’s kind of murky, so we can’t really tell,” said Police News Affairs Officer Jose Jara. “Some students were doing some documentary along the bank here, and that’s where they discovered it.”
The body has not been identified, but police believe it was a man.
