In 2007, DNA connected a man named Clarence Trotter (born abt 1958) to a rape/murder from 1981 of a 21-year-old woman named Marilyn Dods of Chicago, Illinois. Her wrists were bound with brown plastic cord, she had been sexually assaulted, her there was evidence of blunt force trauma to the head and also evidence of strangulation as well as drowning. A knife had been left on her bed.

By 2007, he was already serving time for the rape and murder of a 42-year-old woman named Betty Howard in Chicago in 1986. She had been tied to a radiator, sexually assaulted, stabbed and shot. Two other men had also been convicted in her death but they both were eventually exonerated. Clarence Trotter's fingerprints were at the scene and items of hers were found in his belongings. I believe he is still in prison.

He had an arrest record starting from when he was 11 years old, though the first record I can find in newspapers.com is a 1976 article in which he held up a dunkin donuts with friends in Berwyn, Illinois in 1976. That article also states Clarence Trotter was also known as Steve Morris.

My question is - were there any similary murders between 1975 or so and 1986 that he may have been involved with? I think he was in and out of prison during these years, but it still seems a little unlikely to me that he committed these kinds of murders only twice and with 5 years in between them.
