CRYSTAL LAKE – Crystal Lake police released few details regarding the body that was found Monday in a small retention pond in front of OfficeMax, 4429 Route 14.

Police and the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department were called to the scene about 11:30 a.m. Monday.

The body was facedown in the pond. The dead person had on pants, a brown belt and what appeared to be at least one shoe. Mud and water obstructed further details.

Authorities said the man appeared to be in his 20s or 30s, and was about 5 feet, nine inches tall, weighing 180 pounds. He had short, black hair and had several tattoos. He was wearing tan cargo shorts and gray boat shoes with no shirt.

Preliminary autopsy results released on Tuesday found he drowned, the McHenry County coroner’s office said. Identification of the body was moving forward with the help of state and local police.
