Maquon, Illinois is a wide spot in the road about 50 miles south of the Quad Cities. The tenant initially said that the foul smell was due to a dead opossum, but the storage unit's owner discovered otherwise and called authorities, including an ambulance for the tenant, who "had a medical incident" and like the body remains unidentified as of now.

I'm hoping this is it, and that we'll find out what happened to this person, and who they are, but I just have a really bad feeling that this is only the beginning of something much worse. I'll keep everyone posted.

From the same link:
Deputies asked the owner to open a large box that was sitting in the unit. The owner did not open the box, but informed deputies that there was a body inside of it.

Knox County investigators and Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigation officials were called to the scene and opened the box after obtaining a search warrant. They found decomposed human remains inside. Due to the condition of the body, investigators were unable to identify the deceased person.

The owner of the storage unit was detained, then taken to a local hospital for medical reasons. Due to medical conditions, no charges have been filed at this time but are pending upon further investigation.

Because of the condition of the remains, the body has not been identified, the release says. Names of those involved are being withheld pending notification of family.

Rumors had circulated that the person who rented the unit was a woman, and this has proven correct; she has been arrested, not just for concealment of a death (all they can pin on her right now) but also for other outstanding warrants. Unless she gives them more information about who this was, identification may take a while.

speculating that this sounds like a caretaker concealing a death to continue benefits.

Agree. Investigation may reveal that Marcy actually was the person they’d be notifying.

From the article linked in @MadMcGoo's quoted post: Maquon is a small village of 218 people located just southeast of Galesburg.

218 isn't very many people. I'm guessing this will be solved soon as someone has to know something. Actually, in a town that size everyone knows everything about everyone (and then some). lol Even Galesburg isn't very large (~30K) and it's 17 miles away.

I can hear it now (MOO) "Have you seen Marcy's father/mother/husband, or so and so from around the bend?"

I'd be surprised if someone in town doesn't know the deceased and that it's a stranger to all. I'm putting money on it being someone they all know.

I know where I'm placing my bet.

I don't have FB so can't view a non-public page. Is this her? Same name and small town. She's calling herself a CEO.

Doesn't work for me.
LinkedIn is slippery. Social media sites generally tell you straight up whether or not you need to log in to view the page, but LinkedIn (social networking, not SM) gives you no such warning. I mind my cookies well, but there may also be a counter that is also used by some MSM sources (especially newspapers) that have paywalls.
MOO YMMV LRR

Oddly, it worked for me until I went back to grab the link. Then it required that I log in. I tried it a different way and got back in. It pays to be persistent. *chuckle* ;)

Here's a SS of her LinkedIn page:

I've also seen her last name spelled O'Glesby FWIW.

Her fb mentions she has a special needs daughter. I really hope that's not who that is :(

Her Twitter account (all of 2 tweets) mentions SBA (Small Business Administration) Economic Injury Disaster loans, in the darkest depths of the pandemic. Perhaps the SBA needs to investigate whether her claims are legitimate.

Someone just needs to report it so they can look into it.

MAQUON, Ill. (WMBD) — A Maquon woman has been arrested for concealment of death after human remains were discovered in a storage unit over the weekend.

Marcy L. Oglesby, 50, was arrested Tuesday by detectives from the Knox County Sheriff’s Department on a warrant for concealment of death, which is a class 4 felony.

Oglesby was also arrested on two outstanding Fulton County warrants for fraud and deceptive practices, both unrelated to this case.

I find this part of the article interesting: "Oglesby was also arrested on two outstanding Fulton County warrants for fraud and deceptive practices, both unrelated to this case."

I wonder what that's about? I checked Il records and found 2. One for Maquon and one for Hinesville, GA where she used to live. No idea what they're about as I'm not going to pony up the $$ to find out.
