IL This has been in cold case in my home town of Pontiac, IL. Robert and Marcia Edwards were both murdered by their adopted Son Joe Edwards in 1983. There has been no sight of Joe Edwards. The local, county, and state police are still trying to locate Edwards.

Police are still searching for Edwards. Edwards murdered his adoptive parents in 1983 in Pontiac, IL. Marcia Edwards scribbled his name and "friend" on a piece of paper before she died. This case has been on "Americas's Most Wanted" with no luck in finding Edwards nor his "Friend".

Yay for genetic genealogy! I hope they can find him thru his bio mom or an offspring.

“The force has decided to crack open evidence bags sealed for nearly three decades. Edwards disappeared without a trace, but new technology might let police go back in time and rekindle the hunt, via DNA.

To that extent, police have new help: Weeks ago, they found Joe Edwards’ birth mother. Scientists will seek to match her genetics with any markers left at the crime scene. If that lines up, a computer trail could lead to Edwards.”

Thank you so much for your reply. I am new on WS and just thought I would give this a shot. Any help will be appreciated. The Edwards couple were a very nice couple in our small community.

Welcome to Websleuths! There are a ton of knowledgeable people on here.

I think there's some chance he's still alive under assumed name somewhere in the US (or maybe abroad...)
Honestly I don't feel hopeful about anything in general but I hope they will catch him someday.

I wonder what Edwards heritage is? My first thought was that he may be Native American and fled to a reservation after the crime. Maybe the folks on the reservation do not know his real name.
They found his bio mom via genetic genealogy. So they know her ethnicity and her son would have inherited about 50% of that. If she knew what the bio father's ethnicity was/is, then they'd have a pretty good idea of what the son is. I'm hoping they found the bio dad by now and perhaps he could help. If this guy had a child, that child could be an adult by now and possibly do a DNA test. That may lead them to him also.

I got all that, but , I am wondering if he was Native American and able to escape justice by hiding out on a reservation. Also, maybe the "friend" was bio-dad, who knows.

Sinnott was indicted by a grand jury on the murder charges of his adoptive parents, Robert and Marcia Edwards in 1983. He fled and in 1984, a federal warrant was issued. He would be 55 years old today. He is still at large.

I wonder which alias he used in which state.....

Edwards is suicidal and a know drug user. Has lived in Michigan, N. Dakota, Illinois and Florida. He is wanted for the murder of his parents in rural Pontiac, Illinois on 1-20-83.

I was just reading one of your old links and it mentions he was sent to rehab in ND, so I guess that could refer to before the murders.

His parents tried to help straighten him out, once sending him all the way to a top-notch treatment center in North Dakota. But he ran away from the clinic and found his way back home.
Luciano: Mother's DNA could find parents' killer

Finally a break in the case. I will post as I find out more info when it is released.

Sonar has been used to detect if there is in fact a body buried at the home of a police officer in Pontiac, IL
