GUILTY IL - Marilyn 'Mari' Bethell, 47, Aurora, 30 Oct 2005

How sad. I wonder if LE were able to get any fingerprints from her car? Or if there was evidence left at her home? I hope they catch the guy who was driving her car. Here she had just gotten her license to counsel addicts and then this happens to her. I wonder if her murder has anything to do with anyone that she had been working with...clients that may have gotten the idea that she had money or something. Hadn't she just left work? Maybe these guys followed her home.

The condition, size and location of a decomposed body discovered near the Illinois Prairie Path in rural Kane County make investigators think the remains are those of a 47-year-old Aurora woman who vanished in October.

An autopsy scheduled for today should help identify the remains, although DNA testing might be necessary to confirm the identity.

But authorities note the body is roughly Bethell's size and likely has been in the area for one to three months, matching the time frame of her disappearance.

Kane County sheriff's investigators and Aurora police said the autopsy likely will confirm key details, including the gender of the badly decomposed body.

A man walking his dog along the Illinois Prairie Path northeast of Butterfield and Kirk Roads discovered the body around 5 p.m. Monday after his dog ran off into a small forest grove, according to a release from the Kane County sheriff's office.

The man went to check on the animal and found a badly decomposed body face down in a snowbank.

The sheriff's office said the fully clothed body appeared to be that of an adult, about 5 feet 4 inches to 5 feet 7 inches tall. Missing-person posters describe Bethell as being 5 feet 3 inches tall.

West said the body was brought to the county morgue Tuesday afternoon after first being taken to Delnor-Community Hospital in Geneva "to have some X-rays and a number of things done prior to the autopsy."

Based on reports that he got from deputy coroners at the scene, West said there appears to be head trauma to the body.

A life interrupted

Marilyn "Mari" Bethell didn't want to look back with regret at an unfulfilled life.
She forced herself to skydive, went parasailing in Hawaii, rode the scariest roller coasters and jet-skied in the Gulf of Mexico.

But it wasn't until recently, in her late 40s, that Bethell really came into her own.

She bought a house, enrolled in college and last summer became certified as a substance-abuse counselor. She also tried her luck at Internet dating and clicked on that rare prince in a cyberspace full of frogs.

Then, about two months ago, the 47-year-old Aurora woman vanished. The next morning, two unidentified gun-wielding men were involved in a bizarre crash involving her car.

I wonder if her murder has to do with someone she met on the internet? I hope LE get in contact with every person that she had contact with over the internet. I hope the guys are found. The two guys in the wreck must have been together if the one driving Marilyn's car jumped out of it when they crashed and jumped into the other car.

I'm glad that Marilyn got to do some of the things that she wanted to. It's just a shame that she didn't get to live out her life and do everything that she had planned to do.

About 100 mourners gathered today at a Glen Ellyn church for the funeral of Marilyn Bethell, a woman missing nearly two months before her body was found the day after Christmas along a trail in rural Kane County.

Bethell, 47, was memorialized during an hour-long service at St. James the Apostle Catholic Church, 490 S. Park Blvd. Police have said Bethell died of blunt trauma to the head and declared her death a homicide.

May she rest in peace!!

Makes you wonder if it was someone she was helping & they never liked the advice or told family what was going on & drove whoever it was over the brink.
I hope they find who did it to her.
