BREAKING: Woman's body found in backyard of Springfield home

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - A woman's body has been found in Springfield.

Police were called to the 1100 block of West Cook St. for a report of a foul odor Thursday night.

When they arrived, they found human remains in the back yard of a private property home that was fenced in.

The body was determined to be that of an adult woman.

An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.

So far, the body has not been identified, and a cause of death has not yet been determined.

The location of where the body was found is in the same block where Theresa Cox, 56, was last seen before she went missing on March 23. Police and the coroner’s office on Friday did not confirm whether the remains were those of Cox.
