Authorities seek help locating missing Dowell man last seen a week ago

SEARCH CONTINUES FOR MISSING DOWELL MAN

The search continues for a 43-year-old Dowell man last reported seen more than a week ago.

According to the Missing Persons Awareness Network, William “Billy” R. Stroud Jr. left his girlfriend’s house with a male friend on Jan. 13 and hadn’t been seen since.

“After several days of investigation, investigators determined that William Stroud may have been a passenger in a car that led Perry County Sheriff’s deputies on a chase into the Campbell Pond area of Campbell Road,” Sheriff Steve Bareis said in a Monday news release. “The driver and passenger fled on foot from police.

“Law enforcement attempted to locate those individuals on that evening. A K-9 team was deployed to locate the subjects. Attempts were unproductive and the subjects were not located.”

Bareis noted that the driver and passenger were later identified as Stroud and Stanley Rector, of Dowell, with Rector as the driver.

“Attempts have been made to contact Rector to speak to him about the location of Stroud with no success,” Bareis wrote. “Family members of Stroud have not heard from him, which led to them to report him missing to the Du Quoin Police Department.”

Stroud is described as a white male, 5-foot-11 and 163 pounds with a slim build, short brown hair and brown eyes.

He was last reported wearing a black coat, jeans and black/white tennis shoes. Anyone who has seen Stroud, or has information on his whereabouts, is advised to contact the Du Quoin Police Department at 618-542-2131 or the Perry County Sheriff’s Office at 618-357-5212.

Authorities searching for Dowell, IL man I wonder if he was running and fell into the lake? I can't find the road but that lake is massive.
Yes, very much possible. It seems his friend is not very cooperative...

The driver, who has been identified as Stanley Rector, got out to safety by calling someone for help. The news release says sheriff’s deputies have not been able to reach Rector. Bareis said neither man was wanted at the time of the attempted stop.

However, Bareis said there may be charges filed with the state’s attorney to secure a warrant for Rector, which could lead to information regarding Stroud's whereabouts.
