Documents say The 911 call came from the suspect, Charles Michael Calvert, 60, who said the woman he had been dating for a year came at him with a knife and he reacted defensively.
Officers say when they arrived on the scene, Calvert was standing in the middle of the driveway with his hands up and his phone in his hands.
Calvert told police there was an argument and his girlfriend came at him with a knife.
Documents say the kitchen appeared disheveled, with a broken crock pot, food items scattered around and bloody kitchen knives.
Calvert told police he was cutting onions and the victim said he wasn't doing it right, shoving the crock pot toward him and coming at him with a knife.
Calvert said he became defensive and did not remember details, before saying he did not want to talk anymore without a lawyer present.
Around 9:09 p.m., Allen County dispatch received a phone call from Calvert's father saying his son called and told him he hurt his girlfriend and was going to call 911.
Documents say officers at the scene believed the knives on the floor were staged, "as they appeared to be placed next to the victim's body neatly, the larger serrated knife was covered in blood and the other knife appeared to be relatively clean."
Officers also said they found a pair of men's pants and shirt which appeared to have blood on the front of them, near the kitchen island. Also, investigators say the victim's eyeglasses were on the countertop and appeared to have blood on them.
