Henry Burgess Snyder, 83, former editor and co-owner of The Gary Post-Tribune, is believed to have drowned in Lake Michigan Sun day evening. Members of the family said he left his home at 22 Oak Dr., Dune Acres, for a walk. He was reported missing at 8:45 p.m. His coat and a short garden hoe he used as a walking stick were found on the beach not far from the home. Police speculated Snyder walked onto thin ice that extends about 30 feet from the lake shore. Set. Ralph (Ole) Johnson of the Dunes State Police Post said today that skin divers from Portage are exploring whether it's safe for them to enter the lake. ''He's out there under the ice somewhere," Sgt. Johnson said "We are keeping a check on the area but so far have found no hint. "I can't say whether the divers will go in. The lake is rough this morning. It will be up to the divers to decide whenever it's, safe to go in" Snider was released from Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago a short time ago.
