Jalen Thomas McCuin was last seen at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 15 in Richmond. Authorities say McCuin is believed to be in extreme danger and might require medical assistance.

He's a 24-year-old white male, who is 5-foot-9 and weighs 125 pounds. He has brown hair and eyes.

When he was last seen, McCuin was wearing a beanie cap, sunglasses, a black sweatshirt, blue jeans and black and white tennis shoes.

He has tattoos on both arms (the sun, stars and the moon), tattoos across his chest and a tattoo of a cross on his hand between the thumb and forefinger.

Sandefur said based on the condition of the remains, they have been there for awhile.

"At this point we don't know who the remains are," Sandefur said.

As officers were processing the scene, they discovered an identification card belonging to a male who has been reported missing, Sandefur said. Police are not releasing additional details regarding the missing person case pending efforts to determine if the remains found match the name on the identification card, he said.

They estimate the body has been there for six or seven months. Police say it’s too early to say if foul play is suspected.

Jalen is paranoid schizophrenic, suffering from depression and social anxiety. After about a month, police issued a silver alert.

Jalen used to go camping and walking in the woods near Earlham College. Since he’s gone missing, his parents have kept coming back there looking for answers.

Details of Disappearance​

McCuin was last seen at his apartment in the 200 block of southwest 3rd Street in Richmond, Indiana on August 16, 2018. His grandfather took him to supper that evening, and he spoke to his mother and made plans to go grocery shopping with her the next day. He has never been heard from again.

At the time of his disappearance, McCuin normally walked places to get where he wanted to go, and carried a backpack with him. He enjoyed camping and walking in the woods near the Earlham College campus. Few details are available in his case.

2018 Silver Alert canceled for missing Richmond man

The Silver Alert for Jalen Thomas McCuin was issued Sept. 12, 2018 and was canceled as of July 15, 2020.

<<UPDATE: The Silver Alert for Jalen Thomas McCuin was issued Sept. 12, 2018 and was canceled by Richmond Police Department as of July 15, 2020.

Richmond police tell 13News that McCuin is still missing but they removed the Silver Alert status since it has been two years. It remains an open investigation and has been reclassified as a missing person case.
