On Oct. 5, 1997, 19-year-old Ball State University sophomore Lelauni Scott
was fatally shot at her boyfriend's apartment on the Eastside of Indianapolis.
Her killer was never found.

The crime:

Shortly before 6 a.m. Oct. 5, 1997, 19-year-old Ball State University sophomore Lelauni Scott was at her boyfriend’s home in the 3500 block of North Alpine Place on Indianapolis’ Eastside.

Her family lived in Indianapolis, too, and she had come back to town for that weekend’s Circle City Classic festivities.

She and her boyfriend were asleep when at least one man burst through the front door, went directly to the upstairs bedroom and ordered the couple to the floor.

He fired his gun; Scott’s boyfriend fired back with a weapon he was able to reach.

The intruder fled; Scott was dead. The boyfriend ran out of the house in his underwear and asked neighbors to call police.
