The mom and dad of Sammy Tuesch, who killed himself at the family’s home in Greenfield, Ind., filed a wrongful-death lawsuit last week against the local school system for allegedly ignoring repeated complaints about their son’s torment at the hands of the other students.

This is horrible!

Sammy’s classmates would call him “Dahmer,” saying the fourth-grader looked like serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, the suit says.

“When Sammy complained to his teacher, her only response was that, in her opinion, Sammy did somewhat resemble Jeffrey Dahmer,” the lawsuit reads.

I cannot tell you how 10 year olds know who Dahmer is, but this exact thing happened in the school I was teaching at a few years ago. However, the student thought it was funny and encouraged it. We held interventions for him for other reasons (We were more afraid of what he would do to other students than what other students were doing/saying to him.) I am not surprised the school seemingly did nothing. In my experience, the school and district placate parents but nothing is ever actually done to stop bullying, harassment. etc. It's sickening.

A teacher engaging in the bullying is even more disturbing. An adult bullying a child is astronomically worse. Think Lori Drew or Jennifer Petkov. I suspect a teacher or adult bullying children has major problems. People do not learn from the past.

That type of school is what we have seen in the past with South Hadley, Penn State, BBC, Celtic Boys Club, USA Gymnastics, and Hollywood. People knew something bad was going on, but nothing was done.
