The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office is reminding the public of a decades-old cold case. In July of 1994, the body of 33-year-old Rita Buffington of Bloomfield was found at Shake Lake #2 in the Greene-Sullivan State Forest

"In July of 1994, the body of 33-year-old Rita Buffington of Bloomfield was found at Shake Lake #2 in the Greene-Sullivan State Forest near Pleasantville. She had last been seen on July 27, and her death was ruled a homicide.

Investigators questioned two Greene County men, including a former roommate who frequented the lake, but no charges were ever filed.''

She has not been found.The bodies of two other women, 88-year-old Audra Page and Rita Buffington, a 33-year-old mildly retarded woman, were both found in water.Page disappeared from her rural home in July 1996. Her partially clad body was found four days later in Richland Creek, south of Bloomfield. Buffington disappeared in July 1994. She was found several days later in a lake in southwest Greene County.
