@Richrd Though it is tragic, thanks for starting the thread.
Re: others in house at time of fire, 33 y/o boyfriend of Paige (age 25, the oldest of the sib's). If parents were reported as being at home, I missed it.

"Paige’s boyfriend, Joseph Buchheit, 33, escaped the fire and was not hurt."
"He attempted to re-enter the home to get to the six victims but was unable to due to the heavy fire and smoke,” state police said.
"

"The cause of the fire and the cause of the deaths has not been determined, ISP says, though it adds foul play is not suspected at this time."

In Mar 30 article, several pix of the children, and the house, below.

A reminder for all of us:
check smoke alarms,
carbon monoxide detectors, & fire extinguishers in our homes.

Unbearably tragic story.

Tragic but there are a few things that stand out to me as strange:

1. The fire happened at 3 AM, when presumably the 33-year old boyfriend of the eldest daughter would’ve been sleeping near her. He likely has less familiarity with the house than she does, but he manages to make it out and she does not.

2. Reports suggest the home that burned down was occupied only by the 5 younger siblings (of whom the eldest was 15). Paige and her boyfriend were reported in some news to have been “just visiting” the 5 siblings, but other sources said Paige had just recently moved home to help take care of the siblings (odd, considering their ages were 10-15 years of age).

3. Most striking is that there appears to be no mention of where the siblings’ adoptive parents lived. Did these kids live alone?

4. If you Google map the address of the home, you can see that it is extremely rural; I have trouble understanding why a 25-year old outgoing and active young woman (per her obituary’s description) who had established a life for herself in a more exciting/less isolated city would be eager to return to her rural childhood home to become a caretaker of her 5 siblings.

Just my thoughts, but ultimately this is a tragedy of epic proportions no matter how you look at it.

6 Siblings Killed in House Fire in Rural Indiana, Officials Say

“The fire was reported shortly after 3 a.m. and might have started on the porch of the two-story family house, said David Hosick, a spokesman for the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, which includes the State Fire Marshal.”

Perhaps a smoke outside on the porch?

“Josh South, who said he was a close friend of the family and who started a GoFundMe fund-raiser to help the family with expenses, declined to comment about the family for privacy reasons.”

Lisa Ridener is the beneficiary.

Vevay family says eldest child died in 'act of selflessness' trying to save five siblings from fire

“Paige was deeply passionate about all of her brothers and sisters even though she had moved to the greater Louisville area to attend college and further her career in the hospitality industry," they wrote. "She took every opportunity to be with all of her family members, including the one that brought her back to Switzerland County two weeks ago, to help care for her siblings due to recent events."
