INDIANAPOLIS — The call for help came into the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department 911 dispatch system at 3:56 a.m. Saturday to the 1700 block of James Run Way in southeast Marion County.

One neighbor told FOX59/CBS4 that she had heard two volleys of gunfire from the house next door: one a rapid burst and then a couple of minutes later some singular gunshots.

IMPD officers were on the scene within minutes.

”We got somebody inside the house, lying down all bloody,” one officer reported. “We’re about to go through the back door.”

The details about how Jeffrey Finkel would end up gunned down inside his home remain murky, but court documents released after Indianapolis police fatally shot a domestic violence suspect could hold some clues.

Before a call for help was placed minutes before 4 a.m. Nov. 22 from the 1700 block of James Run Way on the city's southeast side, home security footage captured a shadowy figure slashing vehicle tires in a driveway before slipping behind Finkel's house.

It's that vandalism that put Robert Bido, 37, on investigators' radar and led to them calling him a "person of interest" in a homicide after Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department SWAT officers shot and killed him at about 1:30 p.m., Nov. 25, in Franklin, a town roughly 25 miles south of the state's capital.

Jeffrey Finkel, a 64-year-old newlywed, was looking forward to the years ahead. His life was cut short just before 4 a.m. on Nov. 22.

Bido was wanted for questioning in Saturday’s murder of Jeff Finkel in the 1700 block of James Run Way, but officers were trying to serve a sealed warrant charging him with six felonies and one misdemeanor for a domestic violence incident with his then-wife in June of 2024…a warrant that was filed Monday as homicide detectives were closing in.

“He had a gun to her head,” reads the Probable Cause Affidavit. “’I’m gonna kill you,’” the woman told police Bido said. Then, as officers moved to arrest him, “Mr. Bido jumped out of a second-floor window and ran off.”
