Hunt for missing man not seen for more than 50 years

2 JUL 2019

A family is still trying to find a loved one who went missing more than 50 years ago - and could be in Coventry.

Noel Clarence Hardy hasn’t been seen since disappearing from Dublin in September 1967 and his grand-nephew Paul Mooney is doing all he can to find out what happened to him.

His research over a number of years has led Paul to believe that Noel could be in the Coventry area as the Department for Work and Pensions received a benefit claim from Noel from a homeless hostel in the city in 1988.

Paul can also place him in the Coventry area in 1975 thanks to information from West Midlands Police.

Born in Dublin on December 2 1936, Noel was a British passport holder in the 1950s and also has a British National Insurance number, as well as having been on two separate NHS doctors’ listings.

Sources have confirmed that the case file for a man missing since the 1960s has finally been closed.

Noel Clarence Hardy, born in December 1936, vanished from Dublin on September 17, 1967 when he was just 30 years old. Noel was last seen in the Grangegorman area of north inner city Dublin.

His family in Ireland spent decades trying to trace their loved one, and discovered that he was living in the UK.

Using his own name until 1991, he then assumed an alias under which he lived until his death in December 1997.

Noel, who remained a bachelor, died of natural causes in Staffordshire, and no foul play was suspected in his death.

The case has now been closed and Noel’s family have been notified.
