Security warning for US visitors to Dublin after spate of attacks.

US tourists visiting Dublin are being told to keep valuables safe, avoid walking alone after dark and "keep a low profile" so they don't become victims of crime.

The US embassy in Dublin said in a statement on its website billed as a "security alert" that US nationals should exercise "good personal security practices while travelling" after "a number of recent incidents

How awful, if tourists can't explore Dublin safely after sunset. Is it worse than ever or just getting more media attention now?

That particular set of streets (Talbot St, Marlborough St, Store St) I wouldn't walk on my own after dark if possible and it's been like that for a few years alas. I lived in Dublin for a long time and the north inner city has been sadly neglected in many areas. Most of Dublin is fine but like any city you should be careful, locals and tourists alike.

Dublin is not in the UK. It's Republic of Ireland.

Sons of attacked US tourist say father is out of coma

The sons of the US tourist who was seriously assaulted in Dublin last week say their father has come out of a coma.

Stephen Termini from Buffalo in New York was attacked by a group of youths on Talbot Street last Wednesday night.

The 57-year-old sustained severe head and facial injuries, including damage to one of his eyes.

Michael and Jesse Rizzuto, who arrived in Ireland on Thursday, have been at the bedside of their father in Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.

Jesse Rizzuto said their dad is doing "better" and there has been a "slight improvement here and there."

He said "we're taking it basically one hour at a time."

"He is making slight improvements that we're very happy with and he's showing some good signs of having a strong resilient body."

Speaking to RTÉ News, Mike Rizzuto confirmed that his father is out of a coma.

He said "it's in the right direction, but it’s slow."
