An ambulance driver for the Italian Red Cross is suspected to have murdered five elderly patients when they were transported between hospitals and care homes in the Emilia-Romagna region.

Prosecutors in the northern Italian city of Forlì are investigating an ambulance driver on suspicion of murdering five elderly patients.

All the suspicious deaths occurred while or soon after the patients were transported in an ambulance driven by the 27-year-old man, lawyers of the victims told the Guardian.

A spokesperson for the Forli prosecutor’s office in Italy said an investigation was launched after five elderly people who were transported by a non-emergency ambulance driver by the man died between February and November 2025, according to CNN, U.K. newspaper The Guardian and Italian news agency Ansa.
