Tatiana Schlossberg, the daughter of Caroline Kennedy and Edwin Schlossberg and granddaughter of John F. Kennedy, has revealed her terminal cancer diagnosis in an essay published by The New Yorker on Saturday.

The 35-year-old has acute myeloid leukemia, with a rare mutation called Inversion 3.

Schlossberg said she was diagnosed on May 25, 2024, the same day she gave birth to her second child. Hours after delivery, her doctor noticed her abnormally high white-blood-cell count and moved her to another floor for further testing.

She initially dismissed the possibility of cancer and was stunned when the diagnosis was confirmed, saying she had considered herself "one of the healthiest people" she knew.

“This could not possibly be my life,” she wrote...

This news is so sad. She is so young, and with small children. She is in my prayers.

What a devastating diagnosis. She is so young and otherwise was a healthy person.

It is surprising to me that the CAR-T process did not work for her disease. That has to be a seriously aggressive cancer. CAR-T is saving a lot of lives combined with immunotherapies, such as IVIG infusions to rebuild the immune system.

I underwent CAR-T for Multiple Myeloma last Oct (2024). For my blood cancer, it is a temporary remission, 2-3 years hopefully.

This is such sad news. The article was published today, the anniversary of her grandfather's assassination in 1963.

She writes beautifully, I so wish that she didn’t have to write (or face) this 💔

I feel so sad for her and all of her loved ones, but especially her poor mom who has had to deal with so much tragedy

“For my whole life, I have tried to be good, to be a good student and a good sister and a good daughter, and to protect my mother and never make her upset or angry. Now I have added a new tragedy to her life, to our family’s life, and there’s nothing I can do to stop it.”

Life can be so cruel and unfair sometimes

I noticed that immediately and wondered why the report was made available on November 22.

Very sad. Life is so fragile.

A reminder to not put things off and make the most of everything that every day offers.
