So it seems he does have a father and partner. Do you have a source for the partner @Normal Norm ? Has the sister been deemed the spokesperson for the family? The other loved ones seem to have been quiet until now. Maybe that's a good move though (again, the Hannah Kobayashi case comes to mind with too many voices in the media confusing things).
The sister has been quoted in previously linked msm articles. Imo, this case is nothing like the HK case.

My point was that she, until now, has been the only person making pleas for his safe return AFAIK.

Whilst not the same as Hannah's case, it has similarities. Missing after a flight, distressing phone call vs strange texts, reports of being seen whilst being missing and out of contact with family, and finding out down the track there may be some illegal elements to the missing persons case. MOO of course.

I don't think we can infer this. In the MP cases I have been associated with, families are encouraged to nominate a single point of contact/focus for media. This allows the rest of the family and friends the smallest relief at a terrifying and exhausting time for them. (Note: I do not work in the US where the frenzy around these cases and hunting down family and friends appears to me like a distasteful sport at times.)

I’ve just found an article on an ex-pat newspaper in South of Spain called The Olive Branch.

The article describes a 10day search for a missing Moroccan waiter, in the same area between Alicante & Benidorm & is dated 24/12/24.

The man’s body has just been found hidden in a well on a ‘farm’ in Villajoyosa. It is said there were squatters occupying the farm, said to be Russian & Moroccan.

Suspect this is relevant to this case.

I will ask the moderator if I can link this news site.

An "official" group has been set up on Facebook to help in the search for John:

Let’s find John George
I've had a super quick look at the FB group, and it seems that several people are expecting him to no longer be alive. I think there's a lot more to this case than is known by the general public. (As most cases are TBH) I hate to keep coming back to the Hannah Kobayashi case, but I think some less savoury aspects of his life are being kept from the story, much like Hannah. I totally get why, but it does make the general public start to question things.

I agree with all of this (I can't say anything about the HK part, because I didn't not follow that case at all). Interestingly, with the setting up of the "Let's find John George" group, people ARE now asking questions. Whether they will be answered or not is a different matter. Some questions won't be answered (those regarding John's past / personal life, for example). Others, simply by definition, can't be answered (where is he now, who was the last person to see him, and so on).

<snip>His family are also worried police could be missing vital evidence with John’s disappearance being treated as a missing person investigation. <snip>
AFAIK these cases are almost always treated as Missing Persons until such time as there is convincing cumulative evidence that a person is deceased. Being declared an MP means the whole gamut of causes will be investigated, from voluntarily being out of contact through to the worst conclusions.

Even if LE agree with family/friends that John is likely deceased, they need to track down as much evidence as possible to prove this likelihood before any official determination can be made.

£30,000 reward being offered
Paywall article but the headline says it all on the direction of police involvement in Johns disappearance.

Police treat disappearance of Belfast man in Alicante as a crime

It doesn't seem to be similar to the recent missing HK case, this one has obvious drugs association, hers didn't.
Very sad.
Poor family and little ones.

The family obviously have enough information to conclude that he is no longer alive. It takes a lot for family members to give up hope like that. I feel that the public and the police will be closing in on certain suspects and we will hopefully have a resolution reasonably soon. MOO

I DID provide a reply to this, @HoneyBunOne, but it was removed. Hopefully you will by now have found what you need to know.

Darren added: "As a family, we will not stop until we find him but at the minute we've very little to go on. We're praying for someone to come forward anonymously and give us a bit of information so that we can recover his body and get him home.

"We know John is dead and not missing so we just need to get him back. There's a £30,000 reward from family and friends for any information that leads us to him so we want somebody to come forward from any of his friends. We just need this nightmare to end and we're doing everything in our power to find him.

"Our mum has had two strokes and dad has had a heart attack but they are in their 50s and running around Spain looking for John. mum is climbing mountains, crawling down caves and knocking doors in. We're just devastated and heartbroken and John has two young kids at home who just want their daddy back." :(

His father Billy George said: “It might take days, weeks or even years, but I will find John’s body and those responsible for his death need to know that.

He threw cold water on theories circulating on social media, including the involvement of Russian, Moroccan or Irish mafia, saying he has ‘ruled them out’.

He added: “The truth, I believe, is much closer to home. We just need to bring our son home — that’s the priority right now. This is causing my family so much pain.

How do his family know for sure that John is dead?

Well, I guess it's all but figured out now, but I still have to complain about this one thing: what do they mean by "a very distressing phone call", for heaven's sake?? Seems ridiculous to just say that and no details!

Possibly key to LE investigations and the family were asked not to say more than that. And possibly not important for us to know, since it's pretty clear from today's reporting that police have specific targets in mind (house raids, questioning people)?
