Judge Perry: Mistakenly-released killers 'had some help' in forging paperwork

Phony document scheme surfaced months before Florida killers' release

FDLE officials say arrests are imminent.

As authorities continue to identify more examples of the fraud scheme that led to the recent escape of two convicted killers, the Orlando Sentinel has learned new details about how long key agencies have been aware of the problem.

Seven months before phony court orders sprung Joseph Jenkins and Charles Walker from prison, officials were already investigating another near-identical attempt by an inmate to escape a life sentence.

That inmate, Jeffery Forbes, was foiled when former Orange County Sheriff's homicide detective Dave Clarke discovered that his release date had been changed and alerted the Orange-Osceola State Attorney's Office in February.

In the months that followed, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement conducted a full investigation, which culminated Oct. 8 when prosecutors filed forgery and escape charged against Forbes.

Official: Documents forged for escape were created inside Florida prison

http://www.cnn.com/2013/11/06/justice/florida-inmates-mistakenly-freed/index.html?hpt=ju_c1

From the article:

...Citing confidential inmate sources, Bailey told the panel that the documents were sent out by the prisoners to people on the outside, who in turn filed the bogus documents.

Walker and Jenkins, both 34, had been serving life terms without parole for unrelated killings at Franklin Correctional Institution when they allegedly escaped....

:waitasec: Aren't they supposed to read prisoners mail coming in and out of the prison? :banghead:

How'd that escape detection?
