They were young, in love and defying the most powerful men in their community
Extracts>
"
Julie Buck
Julie grew up in Looma and Derby, remote towns in the Kimberley. When she was a teenager, her mother was killed in a hit-and-run accident, and Julie moved in with a much older man and had her only child, daughter Zaria, to this man. Julie was later promised to an artist Jimmy Nerrimah, who was three times her age. Julie later started a “wrong skin” relationship – a relationship banned under traditional law – with 24-year-old Richard Milgin. Julie’s skeleton was found in the hills behind Looma in December 1994. She was 23 when she died."

"
Richard Milgin
Richard, Julie Buck’s boyfriend, has been missing since 1994 and is presumed dead. Police are treating his disappearance as a suspected homicide. He was 24 when he vanished. There were a few unconfirmed sightings of him in the 90s, but just as prevalent are the other stories – stories about sightings of his body – that still persist around Looma. He had one son, Gino, to a woman before his relationship with Julie."
"
The mystery of Julie and Richard is at the centre of Fairfax Media's new investigative podcast, Wrong Skin. The podcast is the result of a year-long investigation examining the possibility that they were victims of “tribal punishment” that got out of hand."

It features family and friends of the young couple who have overcome fears of retribution to speak out in the hope that public exposure might bring some answers and justice."

A skeleton, a missing person and a wall of silence: ‘We found in a bowerbird nest, human knuckles’

Extract>

"The head of the (WA_Police) cold case squad, Detective Senior Sergeant Quentin Flatman, is determined to find answers for Julie and Richard’s families.

“Whilst we believe a suspect may be out there, or somebody knows about it, we'll always hold onto that to try and make sure that we can bring some kind of closure or justice for those that have been victims of that crime,” he says."

Hi PD, I saw this come up on the weekend. I have added it and notice there was a second episode loaded this afternoon but have not listened yet. There was another not fully investigated murder investigation in NSW called Unravel done by the ABC that you may also be interested in.

Sky News shake-up a ratings success: Paul Murray still Foxtel’s #1

Not much new in the article. Hopefully I figured out how to post the picture. It's sad that this is the picture that exits of Julie.

I don't know if websleuths maybe much help, but the publicity might, so it's good to publicise the episodes.
Internet is available in Looma and elsewhere and maybe this might provide the means of getting the word out to people that do know what transpired with the young couple and became of Richard.

While no information is available until this podcast online about Julie or Richard the artist. Reference to Julie without name perhaps out or respect for the dead. No mention of murder.

Crack shot on canvas - www.smh.com.au

"A short, wiry, chatty bloke with a ready, high-pitched laugh, Mawukura's life changed once he hit the cattle stations. Never having seen a horse in his life, he learnt to ride and got work as a stockman. He learnt Kriol, that mix of English and "language".

But several times, his elders came out of the desert for him. The first time, they conducted a smoking ceremony, took him back to his sandy country and put him through the law. After he had acquired the name Nerrimah from a station on which he worked, they arranged his marriage to Polly, who was just a girl. They arranged two more wives for him, but after one left and another died, only Polly is still by his side."

"He worked on the massive Ngurrara canvas with fellow senior artists as part of their case in the Walmajarri native title claim, sold at a Sotheby's auction in July for $213,000."
