Hello, everyone. I’m here to share my mom’s story in hopes of finding answers. My mom, Brandy Renee Dyson, was 32 years old when her life was tragically taken in Lake Charles, Louisiana, on November 5, 2005. Nearly two decades later, her case remains unsolved, and my family and I are desperate for justice.
Brandy was a kindhearted person but struggled with addiction and homelessness, which left her vulnerable. After being displaced by Hurricane Rita, she was staying at the Lake Charles Civic Center but was asked to leave due to behavioral issues tied to her addiction. The last confirmed sighting of her was at a nightclub in downtown Lake Charles between midnight and 2 a.m., accompanied by a man.
The next morning, a jogger discovered her body floating in Lake Charles Lake. She had been strangled, and her death was ruled a homicide.
An arrest was made in her case. Jeremias Salazar was charged with her murder, and police traveled to Washington State to apprehend him. However, the grand jury declined to indict him due to insufficient DNA evidence, and he was released. My mom’s case has remained cold ever since.
There are lingering questions about her death. Some of my family members believe her case may be connected to the infamous Jeff Davis 8 murders, as there are striking similarities in the victims’ backgrounds and the use of water in the disposal of their bodies. Was my mom a victim of a serial killer, or did the person who was arrested slip through the cracks of the justice system?
Her murder has left a hole in my family’s lives that can never be filled. She was my mom, and I miss her every single day.
