Police fear woman in bin killed for a thrill

Police investigating the strangling of an elderly Sydney woman, whose body was dumped in a bin, say they are looking at a "different" sort of murder investigation.

The body of Hungarian-born Holocaust survivor Katherine Schweitzer, 81, was found in a wheelie bin in her Bellevue Hill unit complex at about 7.30pm (AEDT) on Wednesday.

Body-in-bin witnesses deceived police: coroner

A Sydney coronial inquest into the murder of a holocaust survivor has found that a group of witnesses gave untruthful evidence.

The body of Katherine Schweitzer was dumped in a bin in the stairwell of her Bellevue Hill apartment in Sydney's east in December 2006.

Two belts were wrapped around her neck and her wrists were bound.
