"Alleged abuse 'contributed to woman taking own life'

A vulnerable young woman would not have taken her own life if she had been treated in a "loving" way, a court has heard."

I was wondering if anyone thought this case was an example of someone being pushed and conditioned towards suicide?

I'm not sure the perpetrator has received justice here. There is a line on the other side of which is suicide and I'm thinking he has pushed her towards it.

Ryan Wellings, from Bispham in Lancashire, became the first defendant to be tried before a jury accused of the unlawful killing of his partner after Kiena Dawes, 23, took her own life following domestic violence.

The 30-year-old landscape gardener was found not guilty of manslaughter and guilty of assault and coercive and controlling behaviour between January 2020 and July 2022 after a trial at Preston Crown Court.

Wellings, who had denied all charges, made no reaction as the verdicts were read out.

Awful case. IMO manslaughter would have been a fair result in this case, though it can't have been an easy charge to prosecute. The Guardian has done some detailed reporting on this one:

I think the problem is the young woman had a history of mental health issues and suicide attempts before she met this creature. I suspect that was one of the reasons he took up with her as it is easier to manipulte someone who is already that vulnerable.

Doesn't make it right though. Tough call for the Jury

He looks so smug in his police picture- you can tell he thinks he is untouchable. There was an article i read that he flew kisses to his current girlfriend from the dock..... poor girl

I think your right. You know if she ever made an attempt on her life before? Otherwise it's out of character for her and can be attributed to his actions.
