Paul Daniel “Ace” Frehley, co-founder and lead guitarist of the legendary rock band Kiss, has died following injuries suffered during a fall last month, according to a statement from his family. He was 74.

Frehley’s family issued the following statement:

“We are completely devastated and heartbroken. In his last moments, we were fortunate enough to have been able to surround him with loving, caring, peaceful words, thoughts, prayers and intentions as he left this earth. We cherish all of his finest memories, his laughter, and celebrate his strengths and kindness that he bestowed upon others. The magnitude of his passing is of epic proportions, and beyond comprehension. Reflecting on all of his incredible life achievements, Ace’s memory will continue to live on forever!”

Rest easy, Ace Frehley.

We are devastated by the passing of Ace Frehley. He was an essential and irreplaceable rock soldier during some of the most formative foundational chapters of the band and its history. He is and will always be a part of KISS's legacy. Our thoughts are with Jeanette, Monique and all those who loved him, including our fans around the world.

Yesterday, we lost Ace Frehley, a founding member and lead guitarist of the legendary rock band KISS.There will be more tributes to come on Ace's incredible life and legacy, including at our upcoming Kennedy Center Honors. But for now, we will leave you with these 14 seconds of pure guitar magic by "The Spaceman."

This one hurts. I grew up being a KISS fan (although Ace and Peter had gone and the makeup had been removed when I was "coming of age" in the late 80s) - and was always fascinated with their unique personas. They were an huge influence on me as a teenager (and adult). When I go back and listen to the original 70s albums, it's Ace's guitar which has always stood out to me. He was my favorite member of that band and I am so lucky to have been able to see the original lineup in their reunion tour of the late 90s.

RIP Rock Soldier, Spaceman, Ace - your music is immortal.
