Emporia Police are now highlighting the search for two missing women, and officers believe they may well be traveling together.

Earlier this week, officers asked for the public’s help in finding 44-year-old Linda Estrada. They are now asking for help in finding 39-year-old Amy Ford — both of whom were last seen this past Friday in a Denver convenience store.

Estrada is 5-foot-4, 160 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes and several tattoos. Ford, who may go by Amy Finch, is 5-foot-1, 170 pounds, with blonde hair and brown eyes.

Authorities in Colorado spent 5 days searching with the aid of K9s, airplanes, drones and ground searches. On September 18, Emporia detectives traveled to eastern Colorado where they coordinated with local authorities. Just before 4p.m. CDT, Wednesday, the bodies were found in rural eastern Colorado.

A person of interest to the case is in custody on charges not related to this specific investigation, according to Hayes. The individual’s name will not be released by the Emporia Police Department at this time, due to the continuing investigation(s) in Colorado. EPD can confirm the individual has been cooperative.

An arrest warrant has been issued for a suspect in connection to this investigation, the CBI said. 36-year-old Phillip Lieurence is already being held in Emporia, Kansas on unrelated charges.

KVOE reports that Lieurance was allegedly involved in a chase with law enforcement officials on Sunday afternoon before it was called off. Later that night, he is accused of hitting another SUV with his vehicle several times before a collision on the Kansas Turnpike near the Emporia service exit - five miles northeast of the Emporia tollgate.

According to KVOE, Lieurance and five others from the victim’s vehicle were taken to Newman Regional Health for treatment of their injuries and have since been released.

Lieurance now faces formal charges of:

• Reckless driving - first conviction
• Duty of driver to report accident with an unattended vehicle or property - first conviction
• Aggravated assault - use of a deadly weapon
• Flee or attempt to elude law enforcement by engaging in reckless driving

The man previously convicted of reckless driving while attempting to do donuts has now been charged a second time in an alleged aggravated assault incident.

"Affidavits, or law enforcement narratives, are not posted to the Kansas District Court Public Access Portal. However, Lieurance is accused of using his SUV to assault Nickolai Christensen-Thomsen. Besides allegedly fleeing from law enforcement, Lieurance is also accused of using his SUV to damage another SUV and then essentially failing to stop and provide his driver’s registration or other information to James Merrill Gardner, the owner of the second SUV.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says Lieurance was allegedly involved in a chase with local law enforcement Sunday afternoon before authorities ended the pursuit. Troopers also say Lieurance hit the second SUV several times before a crash on the Turnpike just outside the Emporia service exit, five miles northeast of the Emporia tollgate, late Sunday night. Lieurance and five people from the second SUV were all treated at Newman Regional Health and released.

“During the weeks of Sept. 10 and Sept. 17, 2023, the Kiowa County Sheriff’s Office assisted a Kansas law enforcement agency with a missing persons investigation,” a news release from the CBI reads. “On Sept. 20, human remains of two people were found in Kiowa County, south of Eads.The Kiowa County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI), is conducting an active criminal investigation. An official manner and cause of death will be determined by autopsy. Confirmation of the identities will be determined by the Kiowa County Coroner’s Office.”
