Sitlington was 7 years old when his mother was found shot to death in a Kansas City, Kansas, park 20 years ago last week, he said.

Paula Sitlington’s body was discovered by law enforcement in Welborn Park in the early hours of Jan. 24, 1997. The 32-year-old Ottawa woman was found in the driver’s seat of a white 1984 Ford Mercury...

Sitlington contacted Kansas City, Kansas, police a couple of months ago about his mom’s case, he said.

“It took me awhile, calling every day for two weeks,” Sitlington said. “They reopened my mom’s case. In 1998, the Wyandotte County attorney declined to file charges, and they closed the case. They told me to be patient. It is all new [to them].”

The Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department is in the preliminary stages of reviewing the case, Capt. Michael Vivian, with the department’s homicide unit, said Thursday.

What a terrible tragedy. I hope, for the sake of that family, they get some answers in both murders.
