The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help finding a man they say disappeared last month.

According to the sheriff, 67-year-old Jerry D. Rainwater was last seen on June 29 at his home on Ky HWY 90 at approximately 9 a.m.

He may be driving a silver Dodge Town and Country mini-van.

Rainwater told someone he was going to either the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Lexington or possible to the Georgia/Florida state line area to buy an RV.

The sheriff says Rainwater was carrying a considerable amount of cash.

Police say, while there appears to be no evidence of foul play, Rainwater has not used his phone or bank accounts.

Sheriff’s officials says there were two reported sightings of Rainwater on July 2.

They also say he may have been last seen with two individuals, Joey Hall and James Dishman, but they have not been able to find either of those individuals.

Rainwater stands 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs 130 pounds. He has gray hair, brown eyes and walks with a limp.

If you have information contact the department at (606) 348-5416.

Deputies also say there was an unsubstantiated sighting of Rainwater July 2 in the Monticello area, and he may have been with one or two people. The two people he may have been with are Joey Hall and James Dishman. The two are not considered suspects, but deputies are hoping to talk to them about Rainwater's whereabouts.

Only recent thing I found was a post from Kentucky's Lost & Missing on FB about him from 8/29. Pretty much rehashes the info in the last article above by Darling136.

From the Kentucky State Police Sex Offender Registry:

OffenderDetails - Kentucky Sex Offender Registry

"**OFFENDER IS NON COMPLIANT, LAST REPORTED ADDRESS [Number DBM] W HWY 90, MONTICELLO KY 42633, CANNOT BE VERIFIED**"

There is no date listed as to when Jerry Rainwater became non-compliant, but the last photo posted is dated 3/25/19.

I posted this with the remains...

Probably Jerry Rainwater?

I think this must be the same remains even though there is a discrepancy of the month (July/August). They're not too far apart and I doubt many "partial skeletal remains" are found on Edwards Mountain very often. There is a story in the Somerset paper (Commonwealth-Journal) from 8/7/2020 that mentions that skeletal remains found "last month" were going to be sent out of state to be examined.

Remains Confirmed to Belong to A Missing Wayne County Man

Should this go from "resolved" to "identified?" I thought "resolved" was usually used for what turned out to ancient remains and not a missing person...

At the time of his disappearance, it was believed Rainwater was driving a silver minivan toward the VA Medical Hospital in Lexington or the Georgia-Florida state line to buy a vehicle. The case has been turned over to the Kentucky State Police for further investigation.

The bones weren't on any route between either of those places and his home.
I wonder if this could have been some kind of vengeance for whatever put him on the sex-offender registry. And I wonder if the fact that he was listed there will keep law enforcement from trying to figure out why parts of him were found on Edwards Mountain.
