At 6:57 pm on Monday, Dec. 31, a 911 call was received that reported that the car of Leah Carter, 20, of Gamaliel had left the roadway and been swept into East Fork Creek.

An extensive search effort began immediately with multiple law enforcement agencies and emergency personnel, including helicopters, and continued through the night.

Through the night, the creek level decreased by over 10 feet allowing personnel to have more visibility in the area.

At approximately 5:30 am, a car was located approximately 500 yards from the Lyons Bridge, where she had reported she had left the roadway.

At this time, Leah has not been found.

Volunteers are asked to sign in and out at the Gamaliel Fire Department to receive assignments and be put into groups.

Be advised that this is a dangerous situation and if you decide to volunteer you will need a life jacket.

An earlier report stated she called 911 when her vehicle's engine stalled out when she drove into high water on the bridge. The car has been found but as high as the water was they have to search fields in the floodplain. I do hope they find her for closure for her family. In that high of water, with that kind of current, after dark, I doubt she could have swum to safety. UPDATE: Day 3 of search for Gamaliel 19-year-old, efforts continue
