On July 3rd, 1994, Linda Gibson, 21, and her half-brother, Cody Lee Garrett, 4, were last seen walking on Bourne Avenue near what is now a Convenient Food Mart in Somerset. Police think someone may have picked them up, killed them and then dumped their bodies in a field about two miles away.

“We feel like this is someone that they knew, were familiar with both of them,” says Lt. Brett Whitaker with the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office. Lt. Whitaker says someone may have had a personal vengeance against Gibson and the 4-year-old may have just been in the wrong place at the wrong time...

Police say they’ve had persons of interest but no suspects.

Vigil For Linda And Cody

A Pulaski County family is demanding justice more than 23 years after two loved ones were brutally murdered.

There have been no arrests so far in the deaths of Linda Gibson and Cody Garrett.

The sheriff's office says they are still actively investigating the case, but the family is weary of waiting for answers. On Monday, they held a vigil in memory of Linda and Cody, and to demand justice.

"We all want justice for our family, for our friends, and mostly for that little baby. And for Linda. Both of them mattered," said Amanda Cunningham, Cody's aunt.

“We have new information ... it’s a very active case,” revealed Karl Clinard, public affairs officer for the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department. “We are waiting on lab reports,” Clinard added. He didn’t elaborate further ... except “we never close a case, regardless of how old it is ... when there is new information, the case becomes active.”

The decaying bodies of Gibson and Garrett, both of 324 High Street, were found July 7, 1994, in a fencerow about 10 feet east of the corporate limits of Somerset and about 1,000 yards east of Village Green subdivision off Rush Branch Road.

"Linda Gibson was a fun-loving and easygoing 21-year-old woman, according to her younger brother, Clayton Gibson. “She was real shy. She loved her family, and we love her too,” Clayton told Dateline. “Linda was the best sister in the world.”

According to Clayton, the Gibson family had always lived in the Somerset, Kentucky, area. He told Dateline that in 1994, Linda lived with her 4-year-old daughter, Stephanie, not too far from the family.

Clayton said that on July 3, 1994, Linda had been watching her younger half-brother, Cody Garrett. He told Dateline that Cody was a sweet and innocent 4-year-old. Clayton said that Linda’s daughter, Stephanie, was being watched by Linda’s mother that day. Clayton said that the half-siblings went for a walk to the local grocery store that day. They never returned home...

Clayton told Dateline that in the weeks and months leading up to July 3, his sister had told him and their father that she thought someone was going to hurt her. Clayton said that his father would beg Linda to tell them who she was talking about and why. He would say, “If you don’t tell us, we can’t help you.” Clayton told Dateline that Linda would just sit there and cry."

Heartbreaking.
I can’t imagine the frustration of knowing who killed your children and being unable to get justice. It’s not a mystery. The discovery of the bodies was a compete circus act. Warrants were served. I also can’t imagine this case not getting more public interest, especially since the Sheriff was assassinated in the most Kentucky way possible, at a fish fry, by a former deputy also running for Sheriff. Sam Catron - Wikipedia There’s been no progress since. Kentucky politics are as crooked as a logging road. Regular people don’t often volunteer to get involved. Pulaski has a long reputation for corruption, assassination, and famously unsolved murders.
