Circumstances of Recovery

On April 11, 1978 the body of a newly born baby girl was found in a dumpster behind the ‘Super X’ drugstore at 2231 Hikes Lane in Louisville. She was nude and placed in 3 paper bags. She was alive at birth and at the time she was placed into the bags, but abandoned and likely died of exposure. Her mother has never been identified.

She was given the name "Baby Frances" by Law Enforcement Officers whom also saw that she received a proper burial.

The Kentucky State Police lab now has possession of the well-preserved case files and evidence. As of February 2019, tests of blood and hair samples taken from Baby Frances were being conducted by the state lab.

Detective Brenda Wescott, now investigating the case, states that the use of sites like AncestryDNA to help solve cases, “is new ground for Kentucky”. Although DNA is available in Baby Frances’ case, investigators still need something to compare it to.

In an article by Julie Dolan of WLKY News, according to Detective Wescott -
[Baby Frances’] mother is suspected to be in her late 50s or early 60s now. She could be African-American or white, as the baby could have been biracial.”

I can’t help feeling that Baby Frances’ ordeal is not yet over. :( Surely there is something we can do. I don’t even know what it would be, but something led me to her...
