LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Search teams were in the Jefferson Memorial Forest near Fairdale on Friday looking for a woman who went missing Thursday while walking her dogs.

************
Fairdale Fire Chief Josh Underwood told WDRB News that the search on Thursday night was off Holsclaw Hill Road and the Coral Ridge Loop. Three hiking trails start from that area of the forest, so there is a large area to search.

Crime scene tape went up on Friday afternoon near the entrance of the Yost Recreational Area, as LMPD's Missing Persons Unit fanned out into the woods.

The Jefferson Memorial Forest is a densely wooded area, so searching with a helicopter or drones wouldn't do much good.

Cell phone signals are spotty in that area, which has a lot of hills and trees.

Anyone with information on Bray's whereabouts is asked to call 911 or the LMPD tipline at 502-574-LMPD (5673). Anonymous tips can also be sent online through the Crime Tip Portal.

She has an arrest in the last year for several things, including possession of meth. A small amount would likely mean she's using, and not selling it IMO. That raises concerns as to her physical well-being when she went missing. Hardin County jail log: Aug. 29, 2022 Hardin County court records show that case is still active. KYeCourts - Login

LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
The boyfriend of a missing woman found dead in Jefferson Memorial Forest has been accused of arson.

According to court documents, 37-year-old Timothy Winterholler was arrested on Friday afternoon.

The arrest report said Winterholler reported his girlfriend, 24-year-old Lynnden Bray, was missing around 10 p.m. on Thursday.

During the investigation, he admitted to setting a vehicle on fire located in Jefferson Memorial Forest.

Investigators determined the fire was intentionally set by Winterholler to damage or destroy the vehicle.

Um, why would he need to set a car on fire? Are we sure Lynnden's death is a suicide?

What the heck? That's quite the coincidence, setting a car on fire in same forest that his missing girlfriend was found deceased.

Um, why would he need to set a car on fire? Are we sure Lynnden's death is a suicide?
I have some concerns, for sure. If she loves her doggies, would she kill herself, leaving her dogs alone in the forest ?

Assisted, maybe ?

It was pretty warm that night, so he wouldn't have needed the fire to stay warm....

I went looking for MSM coverage that would indicate an autopsy was performed before ruling the death a suicide. Instead, I learned a lot about the coroner and happened upon this article that states,

“The Jefferson County Coroner's Office said Bray died of ‘ligature hanging,’ but did not specify if it was a homicide or a suicide.”

I recognize that the statement conflicts with a different report that identified the death as a suicide. But, IMO, being out on a walk with her dogs, the burned car…something makes me think there may be more to the story.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Loved ones of a 24-year-old woman who went missing are still looking for answers after she was later found dead in Jefferson Memorial Forest.

**********
The Jefferson County coroner said Bray’s death was caused by “ligature hanging’.

However, her family and friends do not believe Bray died of suicide.

“I don’t believe this was a suicide,” Faith English, a friend of Bray, said. “I just don’t see her taking her life and leaving her dogs to wander in the forest. It’s hard to tell until we get more details about this investigation.”

The investigation into Bray’s death is still open. Police have not made any arrests in connection with her case.

Kandy Bray has been in close contact with Louisville Metro Police about the investigation into her daughter's death. A coroner's report said Lynnden Bray died from a "ligature hanging," and though her boyfriend hasn't been charged in her death, Kandy Bray said it was a rocky relationship.

"They told me it didn't add up. Those were their exact words," she said. "She was not found in the typical way that you would assume someone who hung themselves was found. It was different. It's not like it was obviously it was a suicide and I'm in denial. That was not the case at all. Even if it was that extreme and that was the case, never would she have taken those dogs with her. Never ever."

Lynnden Bray's boyfriend, Timothy Winterholler, 37, was arrested a few days after her death and charged with arson. But he hasn't been charged in connection with her death. Police said Winterholler admitted to setting a fire inside her car, damaging the driver's seat. Kandy Bray said it's the same car her daughter and Winterholler drove together into the forest earlier this month.

"There is no way it would have happened in the sequence of events that he said," Kandy Bray said. "The only timeline I know is there is surveillance (video) of her entering the park in the passenger seat with — they never said his name — Tim (Winterholler) driving and two dogs in the back seat. Other than that, what was told to the police in the timeline was his words. And they are false."

Winterholler was arrested in 2021 for assault and domestic violence against Lynnden Bray. But that charge was amended to harassment, and Winterholler served 90 days in jail.

"We were arguing and he got physical with me, blacking my eye. Not the first time," Lynnden Bray wrote in a domestic violence order in 2020. "I'm afraid for my life."

"There are just other circumstances," Kandy Bray said. "I know his violent past."

But this week, a no true bill was issued in the case, meaning the grand jury decided there wasn't enough evidence to charge him with violating a law.

Grand jury proceedings are sealed so it's unclear what was presented to them.

Winterholler is no longer facing charges and isn't in jail.

The Jefferson County coroner has listed Bray’s cause of death as ligature hanging, which differs from the more common suspension hanging. Louisville Metro police have not determined if Bray’s death was a suicide.

His girlfriend Lynnden Bray, 24, was reported missing after she went hiking with her dogs at Jefferson Memorial Forest.

The police found her body the next morning. The coroner's office said she died from hanging.
Winterholler reported her missing but also admitted to setting her car on fire, which was found near her body.

Speculation later swirled that Winterholler may have had something to do with Lynnden Bray’s death, which the coroner ruled a suicide.

On Wednesday, a grand jury found that there was not enough evidence against him and charges were dropped.

WAVE News Reporter Brandon Spencer reached out to Winterholler for an interview, and he initially agreed but when crews arrived, he instead handed them a written letter sharing his thoughts and final word about the death of his girlfriend.

If you would like to read Winterholler’s words verbatim, you can find them below:

"They told me it didn't add up," Kandy Bray said in July. "Those were their exact words: 'Things are a little weird, and they're not adding up.' She was not found in the typical way that you would assume someone who hung themselves was found. It was different. It's not like it was obviously a suicide, and I'm in denial. That was not the case at all."

Kandy Bray said investigators are still looking at her car and information from her phone.
WDRB: "What happened with the fire inside her car?
Winterholler: "Well first off the car was not in her name so technically it wasn’t hers but I told her (if) she didn’t bring the key back neither one of us would drive it away (I) lit the seat she kept walking and I put it out because she called my bluff that was the last time I seen her."
Police said there is no timeframe on when test results will be back.

Ok ... a grand jury says there isn't enough evidence to bring charges. The video at the link above, says LMPD is still waiting on "tests" and the investigation is still open?
