Did they ever come back after autopsy and say how long they thought sweet Miya had been deceased?

My God, looking at those mugshots, they don't look fit to take care of themselves, much less a baby. So repetitive and heartbreaking.

I've quietly followed this case since the beginning and it is absolutely heartbreaking and infuriating. The child protective system in every state needs a complete overhaul, and I can state that from experience with the system.

I have had my grandchild since they were 6 months old (now 16 years old). Courts wouldn't give me custody until the baby was found in a hotel room with the parent (full of drugs), when they were 2 years old. My husband and I started the adoption process when they were 7, but it took a year (and $25k) for that process to complete because the drug addicted parents were given free attorneys to fight us.

Fast forward to 5 years ago and Mom has another baby. At 8 months he was removed and my oldest daughter took custody of him. He had many different drugs in his system. When he was born, Mom went to a hospital that does not drug test pregnant women.

Mom now has a 1 year old and we are all holding our breath, waiting to see if this will happen again. She used a different name when she went into a DIFFERENT hospital, so they had no way to trace it. Our hands are tied by the system, until something goes "wrong". One would think that losing a child because of an addiction, that a parent would clean up....unfortunately that is far from reality. Most addicts are looking for one thing, and that's their next high.

In our case, this isn't a generational curse.......it's a matter of choosing the wrong people to associate with. I've never done drugs and it was rare that I ever took a drink.

I apologize in advance if I've offended anyone, but as someone who has dealt with a child that is an addict and lived through the horror and hell of their actions and decisions, there's no way to sugar coat what the reality actually is.

RIH Miya.....you deserved so much more than life gave you.

Thank goodness those children had you and your husband there to love and look out for them. Like mentioned generational.abuse is devastating which what was apparently going on in this case from both sides if I remember correctly.

So many of us here on WS have commented on our once quiet towns and villages are riddled with addiction. But your story is just so personal.... my heart hurts for you and those grandchildren...

I think we just need a total overhaul of the "social work" profession.... I remember back in my college teaching days , long ago, we had lots of social work students in our classes, because we had so much State funding from Massachusetts after passing Chapter 766. We were able to build a rich valuable curriculum for Education and other relatable professions.

Chapter 766 helped bring thousands of young people into more inclusive educational settings and required team evaluations, annual reviews, and Individual Educational Programs (IEPs). It also required that local school systems educate every student in their community and fund appropriate educational costs.

"Inclusive settings" also put much emphasis on keeping children in the family unit.

I would think, these days, social workers must spend more time getting children out o those family settings. Who/what is assisting them in this battle??
