Ethan Hatfield, 26, died Thursday from a gunshot wound, according to police and the Fayette County Coroner’s Office. Details surrounding Hatfield’s death were not immediately released as authorities investigate.

A shooting that occurred late Thursday night has left one man dead and a woman in the hospital with serious injuries. The Fayette County Coroner identified the man as 26-year-old Ethan Boler Hatfield. He is the son of prominent businessman Rod Hatfield, whose name is attached to several area car dealerships. Police have not said who fired the shot.

According to Lexington Police, they responded to a call just after 11:30 Thursday night to a private property on the 4900 block of McAtee Lane. When police arrived on the scene, they found Hatfield and a 22-year-old woman, who has not been identified, with gunshot wounds. Hatfield was pronounced dead on scene. The woman was rushed to the hospital to be treated for her injuries.

Police said there is no suspect at this time, and an investigation is ongoing to determine whether Hatfield's death was an accident, homicide, or suicide.

The cops are probably looking at the 2017 case for a motive.
Reminds me of some dialogue from the film No Country for Old Men:

Sheriff Ed Tom: It sounded like these old boys died of natural causes.
Deputy Wendell: How's that, Sheriff?
Sheriff Ed Tom: Natural to the line of work they was in.
Deputy Wendell: Yes sir.

EH's father was had a dealership license pulled at one time, years ago. Someone at the dealership was moving stuff that was not legal, inside the door panels of used vehicles. EH would have been a child at that time, or possible it was before he was born.

EH's home, below, was in his father's LLC. It was in one of the nicest gated communities in Lexington, so, someone buzzed the killer in (unless it was a murder-suicide attempt). The girl's injuries seemed serious, but not life-threatening. Maybe she can shed some light, or maybe not.

Was there video at the gate? I’m sure there’s cameras in the neighborhood with that much wealth.

I'm not sure but I'd not doubt that there are cameras all over. I was wondering if it was possible the assailant rode in with EH, and the female who survived. I've heard murder/suicide tossed around quite a bit but not from LE, then again, maybe I've missed an update. It could very well be a possibility.

The house is the same house where the drug mule was beaten down, by EH, his frat brother, and another man. I'm pretty sure, speculation only, that his father kept the home in an LLC, but it was considered EH's home. Side note: EH's Mother is deceased and his father now lives out of state.

Ive heard the murder/suicide angle mentioned too but without knowing her injuries it’s an open topic I guess. It does seem like somebody closer in, or there with the victims as you say, would be more accurate. Revenge can’t be counted out even as it’s been several years since that incident but worth noting how those guys got very little punishment for that.
