Did Charles drive to New Orleans alone or did his family pick him up?

New details

Charles Veith, 79, had traveled to New Orleans to visit his family for Christmas. He left the family's home in Mid-City about 11:30 a.m. and was expected at his sister's house in Bridge City about 2:30 p.m., but he never arrived there.

Veith had been staying at a hotel in Kenner near the airport but never checked out, leaving important medications and other belongings behind in the room, said his brother, Robert Veith.

A friend from Texas said she called Veith about 12:30 p.m. but heard a noise and then the call ended abruptly. She called back, but the phone went to voicemail. No one has heard from him since.

I've been following this because it is very local to me. Texas equusearch is on the case. They released a photo of the last sighting of his car. I'm so worried about him. We have sooooooo much water. Everywhere you turn is a body of water. I will link some things from my computer, if someone doesn't get to it first.

So he didn't just go on an errand, he was going to his sister's home? Do we know if where his sister lived was a very rural area? Do we know how far that was from where he was staying, where he left from?

Also any word on him having any health issues?

So he drove his car off the boat launch somehow?
That's exactly what I'm thinking. His family is worried about foul play, which is so understandable. But I am also concerned about self harm.

For reference, his sister's house in Bridge City and where he was found are not super close. It would probably take 30 minutes or so to get there. Where he is in the water isn't far from the airport hotels, but also not super close. Maybe 5-10 minutes. Him being seen near w esplanade and williams made me think of the old treasure chest casino, which is on Lake Pontchartrain. He was seen on video near Driftwood in Kenner, which is also kind of heading that way. I was instantly worried about the water by Treasure Chest, as it is kind of isolated now.

Ugh. I hope they find his can and can give his family some answers. It won't heal the pain, but the questions and being unsure make everything so much worse.

Rest well, Mr. Charles. I hate that your time here with your family wasn't the fun filled adventure it should have been.

Veith’s vehicle, a grey Ford Edge with a Texas Knights of Columbus license plate, has not yet been located.

Veith's stunned siblings on Tuesday afternoon remembered him as a devout Christian who loved Catholicism.

Kenner police investigators can't yet say what happened to Veith. The cause of death won't be determined until Thursday when the Jefferson Parish Coroner's Office conducts an autopsy.

Veith’s vehicle, a grey Ford Edge with a Texas Knights of Columbus license plate, has not yet been located.

Authorities searching for the car belonging to a missing Texas man whose body was found floating near the Kenner boat launch found the vehicle Wednesday in the same waters, according to police.

There was no damage to the vehicle, leading police to suspect that Veith may have driven into the lake from the boat launch, McCormick said.

"What caused him to do so? We don't know. Maybe a medical emergency," McCormick said.
