oops, thanks! I only saw when she was officially reported missing. Wonder why the CPSO didn't file a report on the 23rd. Maybe they gave her that '48 hour' or 'adults do this all the time' BS. Again, just speculating but wonder if she did have some hardships in life and LE didn't file a report because something similar had happened in the past.

When I read this particular article, I got the feeling they (including her mom) were waiting to see if she came to the child’s birthday party. It appeared that once DM didn’t make it to the party, that’s when her mom and LE felt something wasn’t right, etc…JMO

VIVIAN, La. — The last time Martha Mullins heard her daughter’s voice was the day before she went missing.

On Jan. 21, 2020, Kevan McCathran came home to find his wife missing. Dorothy “Dottie” Yates-McCathran, 42, disappeared without a trace leaving behind her purse and ID.

“If you are going to go somewhere you usually take your driver’s license, or your purse, or whatever girls take,” said Chester Mullins, the woman's stepfather.

Missing Vivian woman's family spends her birthday in search of answers
The family of a Vivian woman missing for nearly nine months is still searching for answers -- and hope -- on what would be her 41st birthday.

[...]

Investigators say McCathran's husband returned home to find her missing.

"She was cooking dinner," MM says. "There's food on the stove where she was cutting up okra and cooking okra. And then when her husband got home she was gone. Her purse was there. Her driver's license, everything. And she was missing."

Her vehicle was disabled. It's believed she either walked away or was picked up. Though MM says a search of the five acre property near Vivian's airport, where the couple lived, did turn up some of her belongings.

"They found some jewelry and they found a hat and a scarf in the woods. But that's all that was found," MM says.

She says she talked to her daughter on the phone the day before she disappeared. MM says McCathran was upset about not being able to come to Shreveport to see her daughter on her sixth birthday.

"She cried some on the phone," MM says. "But then she settled down and got excited about coming for the birthday party (the following Saturday.) And she was going to come do a camp with [minor's name redacted] that next morning. She was very excited. And then the next day she's gone."

What does it mean that Dottie’s vehicle was disabled? Did her 6 y/o child live elsewhere?

They said it weird, but I kind of think it just means not working. Like it was broke down and couldn't be driven.

Numerous searches of her property as well as an investigation by the Caddo Sheriff’s Office have turned up no significant leads, said Sheriff’s Det. Matt Purgerson.

McCathran’s family is asking anyone with information on her disappearance to come forward.

ETA: the headline states “missing two years”… not sure if that’s a misprint or they are just rerunning an old article.

March 21 2025
  • Dorothy "Dottie" Yates-McCathran, 42, went missing from her Vivian home on January 21, 2020.
  • Dottie's husband, Kevan McCathran, claims she was gone when he returned home from work, but new information reveals Dottie called a friend that day, upset after a fight with Kevan.
  • Despite drone searches and a $30,000 reward offered by Dottie's family, no significant leads have emerged in the case.
  • The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office continues to investigate Dottie's disappearance.

In recent months Martha has received new details in the case.

Dottie supposedly called a friend (who asked to not be named) the day she went missing.

“This information just came available to me within the last six months,” Martha said.

“This information just came available to me within the last six months,” Martha said.

The friend of Dottie told Martha that on Jan. 21, 2020, at 3:45 p.m. the missing woman had called her.

During that phone call, Dottie said that she and Kevan had been fighting and she really needed to get away. She was asking for a job that her friend had been offered her to take at a restaurant.

Martha said, "she was talking to this woman on the phone, and somebody walked in on her. We don’t know who, but she had been crying when she was talking to this woman but when whoever walked in, she pulled herself together and just said hi.”

If the person she “pulled herself together” to greet (as she’s making what sounds like the start of an “exit strategy” for leaving a dysfunctional/abusive relationship—which isn’t to say hers was, only that folks in them tend to try to make a plan to escape that they’ll execute when they feel the time is right) turns out NOT to be her husband, I will be absolutely shocked. Who else would just waltz into her home without announcing themselves first?

Last updated July 25, 2025; details of disappearance updated.

Details of Disappearance

Yates-McCathran was last seen at her home in the 10000 block Vivian Airport Road in Vivian, Louisiana on January 21, 2020. She spoke to a friend on the phone that day, upset and crying, and said she and her husband of seven years had been fighting and she needed to get away. She said she wanted to take a restaurant job that her friend had offered her. During the conversation, someone walked in, and although Yates-McCathran had been crying she said hello to that person in a normal tone of voice.

Her husband arrived home to find her gone. There was okra cooking on the stove, and Yates-McCathran's purse and driver's license were left behind. She has never been heard from again. At the time of her disappearance, her vehicle was disabled; authorities believe she either walked away from home or got picked up by someone else.

Yates-McCathran's parents in Shreveport, Louisiana have custody of her two children. On the day she went missing, she spoke to her daughter on the phone; she was upset about not being able to see the child on her birthday, but she cheered up and got excited about coming to the birthday party the following week. A search of the couple's five-acre property turned up her jewelry, hat and scarf in the woods, but no other sign of her.

In April 2020, three months after Yates-McCathran disappeared, a person left unspecified information about her at an undisclosed business in Vivian. Authorities have appealed for this individual to come forward so they can speak with the person further. Yates-McCathran's case remains unsolved.

... "authorities believe she either walked away from home or got picked up by someone else." ...

I think we can insert another scenario here, and the finger pointing is aimed squarely at you know who.

Yeah, exactly! Why would they even say walked away or went with someone else. Come on. Who walks away from a stove that is on and leaves their jewelry in the woods 🙄 There is really only 1 logical scenario here. And it's not the one stated.

Thank you, songbrd, for posting the video, it's certainly worth viewing. John mentions a few things that i wasn't aware of that raised my eyebrows.

Wishing LE can give Dorothy's loved ones the answers they need.
