The chief declined to give any other details at this time other than his department was working with the Jeanerette City Marshal’s Office and Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office.

UPDATE: Still no sign of missing Jeanerette man; search continues
Jeanerette Police are still searching for a missing man; Sheriff Louis Ackal confirms that he suspects foul play in Howard Poche's disappearance.*

Poche has been missing since Christmas day. He typically rode his bicycle to church on Sunday mornings, but he wasn't at church yesterday and his bike is missing now, Iberia Sheriff Louis Ackal said.*

Investigators found a bloody knife in his home, and blood in other areas of the home. The Sheriff said he does suspect foul play.

Jeanerette Police, Iberia Sheriff's deputies and volunteers have been searching for Poche since he was reported missing, including in wooded areas in Iberia and St. Mary Parishes.

"I would go to bed praying and wake up praying that they would find him," Poche's cousin, Lisa Poche, said.

Lisa sad she cannot believe they missed Poche's body this whole time.

"I don't understand if he's been here all these days how they didn't find him," Lisa said. "I don't understand. Hopefully we will get some answers soon and find out why the yard wasn't checked. I'm so very upset right now."

Unbelievable! It took three days to find his body at the crime scene. If that doesn't epitomize incompetence, I don't know what does.

Oh my goodness I wonder if this is my friends neighbor on Main Street? There was an older man that rides a bicycle around town he recently got a new one sometime in the summer I've seen him several times while visiting

"Churchgoers who went to his house to check on him found a woman cleaning up "a considerable amount of blood," according to an earlier KLFY report. Jeanerette police detained and questioned the woman, and she was later released."

This woman was found cleaning up a considerable amount of blood in Mr. Poche's home but was questioned and released?

You would think checking the trash cans would be the first think they would do especially if someone is found cleaning blood and the homeowner is missing. That's crime scene analysis 101 and even a fifth grader could figure that out. Instead they went on a three day search through fields and bayous with helicopters and boats equipped with sonars while all along the poor victim was at his house in a trash can. That makes no sense.

Absolutely.... Just chatted with my friend it is the man that lives across the street from their country home. So very sad, he rode his bike everywhere did no harm to anyone. The St mary parish line is within 3 blocks of the house, his house is about 2 houses from the railroad track. This was indeed bad work on Iberia Parish LE

From BayouBelle's link:

Ackal said when a parishioner arrived at Poche’s home they found his housekeeper, Michele King, cleaning up a “considerable amount of blood.”

King is now in the parish jail on charges unrelated to Poche’s death but Ackal said it’s possible she could be charged in the case.

How very sad. RIP Mr. Poche!

And if this senseless murder wasn't enough to make you angry, crime scene investigators make a terrible mistake on top of it. Very upsetting.

I bet it turns out Howard knew his killer and had helped him in some way, as if often the case with older, kind folks. Was something stolen from his house? The over-eager cleaning lady might be able to shed some light on that - if she wasn't involved.

Very possible he did, Mr Poche would ride is bike frequently to church, store, the bakery etc...this is a very small town everything is within a few blocks He would wave when we were sitting on the porch as he turned the corner on to his street. Very saddening

I'm very sorry, folie. You must all be so shocked.

Do you know the arrested man, Jeffery Lee Marks, as well?

No I do not know JLM nor do my friends. I knew Mr Poche from the occasional visit to the country house. My friends whom have had a country home there for many years knew Mr Poche well. Its very sad and shocking this was someones grandpa ya know a harmless kind older man ... Just burns fire in me that someone could be this cruel.

I'm assuming the person was at Mr Poche!s house then did whatever and drove the bike away ... Just based on the info

Thank you folie. I totally understand how you all must be feeling. My elderly neighbour was also murdered 10 years ago. Motive was money. Perp was caught within days, thank God, but I couldn't sleep well for weeks, needed to keep the lights on, like a child. I was deeply disturbed. You never think it could happen to someone you know. :(
