Ja'sean was driving a stolen Infiniti FX35 near the intersection of Paris Road and Casa Calvo Street shortly before 2 a.m. Thursday when Sheriff's Office deputies tried to stop the car for a "suspected moving violation."

Ja'sean crashed the vehicle and ran down the middle of the ferry landing bridge with a deputy running behind him.

Detectives told his mother there were no cameras to capture the incident and a camera at the ferry landing was not working that night.

Although the Coast Guard suspended their search Saturday, Pohlmann said deputies are still patrolling the levee and the shore in search for the teen's body.

Ja'sean's mother and other teachers, family and community members are planning to hire a lawyer and look for ways to continue the search for Ja'sean's body.

Something’s Not Right

The police say Ja’Sean jumped into the river to get away from them following a high-speed chase through Chalmette. Nobody except Ja’Sean, the police at the scene, and perhaps the 15-year-old passenger in the car know what truly happened. The St. Bernard Parish Sheriff, James Pohlmann, has full confidence in his deputies. But Sonya Williams (Ja’Sean’s mother), other family members, and many people in the community don’t believe the official narrative. Beyond institutional issues of police misconduct or systemic problems of racism, the disrespect to the grieving mother is astounding. Their refusal to clarify the events of March 8, the Coast Guard’s refusal to continue the search for a child, and the media’s persistent portrayal of Ja’Sean as, first and foremost, a criminal, is heartbreaking. This boy deserves more. This family deserves more.

So sad. This is a very dangerous, mile wide, muddy river with treacherous undercurrents, swirls and eddies and a lot of ship and barge traffic all night.

I hope his body pops up soon so his mother can bury her baby properly. If he isn't tangled up in some debris, he should pop up in mid-April.

They were 14 and 15 driving a stolen car, ( a felony) fleeing LE at 2 am on a school night when they should have been home, asleep, getting revived for a full day of school. SMH Kids think they are invincible.

St. Bernard deputies did not hurt this kid. There are no monsters in the department.

I wonder if they found him or if they had him declared legally deceased.

I can't believe there is not more about this in the press. Can't link it, but there is an active "You Caring" fundraiser for Ja'sean trying to raise money for divers to find his body and for lawyers fees. I don't think they found him yet. :(

Well, they had an interment, so I assume they buried a body and not an empty coffin.

Hopefully they found him, but I'm baffled at why it wasn't reported anywhere.

The fb page for Ja'Sean reported on March 28 that his mother wanted to thank everyone for their support and that his body had been found in the river near where he jumped in from the ferry landing. There is no mention of when he was found or how far down river.

It is a very bad river, people who jump in don't come out.

Thanks TeaTime. Very sad his life ended that way but it's good to know his family was able to have a service and lay him to rest instead of going years without answers. Can you link the fb page? As long as it was a search page created by family it should be allowed I think. Maybe the mods can officially move the thread with that link? I'm not sure...
