Grand Coteau is a small picturesque and rural town in St. Landry parish. It’s off Highway 90. Highway 90 intersects 1-10. Sherburne Wildlife Management can be reached by exiting I-10. This area is extremely rural.

“This is not Nathaniel. Nat, he never leaves this long or any period without calling somebody. He hasn’t called his mother. He hasn’t called me or anybody we know,” his father Joseph Melancon said.

He recalls the last time he saw his son.

“He was staying at my house for a little bit. He came to visit, and one morning he and I were sitting under the carport talking, but he seemed a little depressed.”

Melancon said he suggested that he get help for his depression, but he declined.

Nat and his loved ones are in my prayers. Nat posted this image on his FB back in Jan. Notice the shadow in the water showing the photographer (Nat?) standing on the bridge. If someone can determine where it was taken, it might be a good idea to search that area. MOO

We have so many waterways in South Louisiana that are filled with cypress trees. My guess would be along the Atchafalaya Basin. I don't think it would be on I-10 (interstate) which crosses the basin because there’s absolutely no room to walk or stand. This bridge is an extremely dangerous area to have a vehicle break down.

Looks like that is a hand rail designed for a pedestrian bridge, not one for vehicle traffic. That was likely taken in a wildlife management area or state park.

“No one will ever understand how much I miss that boy,” said Nathaniel’s Father Joseph.

Nathaniel’s sister, Sydni, said he was always humble and the life of the party.

“He would sit there and give you his last for anything,” Sydni said. “He loved my mom and daddy. He praised my mom and my daddy to the fullest.”

Nathaniel and his fiancé were supposed to get married on the day of the memorial. His best man Terrel Guidry said he and the family will not stop until all of their questions are answered.

“We are not going to leave no stone unturned. We are going to continue to search and look for him and figure out a way. We are going to put the people behind bars or we will find some closure. We definitely need some answers,” said Guidry.

After more than three years since the disappearance of Nathaniel Melancon, a Grand Coteau family is still looking for closure on what happened to him. To help assist with the case, the family has put out a $20,000 reward for anyone with information.

“There’s evidence out there that speaks that he’s deceased,” Taylor said. “Where’s his remains? Where did you guys put his remains?”

“We’re begging and pleading with the community to stop sleeping on this case and give us some information,” Taylor said. “We desperately want answers, not so much in terms of who did it, why we just want his remains. We want the closure. At least give us that part.”
