Remona Brown, 3, who went missing on March 6, 1984, had just escaped a house fire that killed two of her brothers when she was last seen by her family.

The NOPD released an image of what Brown is believed to resemble in the present day at age 37. Brown was one of several siblings to escape from a fire in the 2600 block of Memorial Park Drive the day she went missing, according to her sister, who was 8 years old at the time.

Brown walked away from the scene, her sister said. At that point a vehicle occupied by a man and a woman stopped and asked the children if they needed assistance. The pair offered to watch Brown, and Brown entered the vehicle.

The vehicle left the scene, and Brown has not been heard from since. A search of the home and the immediate area after Brown's disappearance didn't yield any results.

Her sister, Simona Brown, filed a missing persons report this week. Police did not open a missing person case at the time of Remona's disappearance, although investigators told the family they could open one, but that was never done.

I saw this when Meaghan Good posted it on the Charley Project blog! According to an older article from back then, they at first thought that they had found Remona’s remains, then they realized they had only found her brothers —Remona and two brothers were the only children to not be found safe. Their parents and other 7 siblings escaped unharmed. (Including the one who filed the MP report). Such a strange case, especially since they could have filed earlier.

Still wanting answers, this week, one of Brown's sisters, Simona Brown, filed a missing person report with police about Ramona. Even 34 years later, Simona recalls a vivid memory of an older, interracial couple driving a bronze-colored sedan picking up Ramona, promising to care for the girl in the chaotic aftermath of the fire.

While a joint NOPD and New Orleans Fire Department task force searched for the girl's remains for four days after the fire, the case was never transferred over to the NOPD for investigation as a possible kidnapping or a homicide.

What a cutie. Is her first name spelled Ramona or Remona?
