Baton Rouge girl, 15, found bound and gagged in drainage canal

A 15-year-old girl was found bound and gagged in a Baton Rouge drainage canal Tuesday, police said.

Baton Rouge Police spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said passersby noticed the teenager in a ditch area near 11,000 N. 44th St. at 1:19 p.m.

The girl said she was attacked by three males, McKneely said. He could not confirm whether she was sexually assaulted.

The teenager, of Baton Rouge, was reported missing as a runaway Monday night, McKneely said. She is being treated at a local hospital, he said.

Baton Rouge Police investigators say the girl had been tied up in the woods near St. James Baptist Church on North 44th since Monday night.

Police officials say the girl ran away from her home Monday night with a male, but it is unknown if the male is involved in the case.

The passerby heard the girl's cries for help and went to the nearby church to call 911.
