** Familiar with this area, there are other parish boundaries in this location St Mary and Assumption Parish the layout for the parish boundaries for St Martin is a very small portion on Hwy 70. That is the reason I made the note of the other 2 boarding parishes.
** In the height of this time frame Oil & Gas industry was booming many workers came from all over the country
** The area is fairly well traveled between Morgan City, Belle River and Pierre Part I would think more locals travel than anyone else between these locations there are no lights and it is off the beaten path a tad rural in sections.
** Made a few notes on the jewelry between the emerald and bull/star it led me to believe these items could be potentially related as a birthstone and zodiac sign (Taurus Apr 19 - May 20 / May birthstone is Emerald)

From KATC the case was reopened in 2007 due to Robert Charles Browne confessing to killing a dozen women in Louisiana.
An added clue is that the JD was also wearing a medical ID necklace indicating she was diabetic

Two rings, one a 3 stone engagement ring and the other a gold ring with an emerald stone, an interesting pendent with a bull and a star and a medical id necklace showing that "Jane Doe" was a diabetic was also found. She was wearing a western style green plaid shirt.

The department never received a missing persons report and says she may have been visiting the area.

Believe LE may have thought this was "cajun lady" as described by Browne the given year is a few years 1977-1979 before JD was found. JD was wearing a country western shirt in which country western bars and engagement/wedding ring is a part of Browne's MO. The descriptions of the dock and high bridge sounds like the bars on front street in which were vary notorious back in the 80's. However the distance between the bridge to the location where JD was found is a 20 min drive. To note there are only 2 high bridges in the area MCY and Amelia. The reopening of the case in 2007 is curious will have to research if it was ever founded if she was or was not one of Browne's victims.

My only discontent with JD being a Browne victim is that there have been no missing persons reported by a; fiancee nor husband
Added the age is on the higher end for Browne he tend to like younger women

Also Browne may have wanted to steal the limelight from Robert Carl Hohenberger whom was active in Morgan City in 1978

I agree it could be Robert Browne. I live in Ascension Parish. I do follow all Louisiana cases, like you the only thing that gives me pause is her fiance. Did he ever report her missing? I know missing person's cases were treated different back then but it makes you wonder.

Ah... Ascension... Ya know the area the back road to pierre part/belle river. Its possible did some more reading on Robert he often dumped his victims in lakes and rivers in which this was on the levee by the river. Did some thought if RB was making a visit to NOLA from Coushata and liked to take roads through small towns then taking Hwy 90 instead of I10 would be ideal. He would pass through MCY. The only thing thats catching me is the JD's age ... RB liked them younger.. As far as report of anyone missing that fits JD's bill have not found one ...

I was following way to many different cases it was making my head crazy ... Info overload so as you narrowed it down to Louisiana and tend to like the older cold cases ... These women should not be forgotten and deserve their name.

There was another UID found in St Mary Parish found winter of 1981 very little information on her. Possible Native American Mixture in which in the area you have Chitimacha (Charenton) and Houma Nation (S Houma). Many locals have traces of Native not unusual.

In all it was obvious the motive was not robbery due to the amount of jewelry left on the victim. Would believe if it was a spouse/fiancé/boyfriend the rings would be removed to not make a link back. With the jewelry not removed leads me to believe the jewelry had no connection to the murdered.

Diabetic bracelet with no ID included on the bracelet. Several compressed thoracic vertebrae, a cracked rib and one hard blow or more to the face before death. The report indicated that the cause of some injuries may have been an automobile accident. Only one article of clothing found was a Size 12 Blue Western shirt.

If she had been in the area for 6 months, it would place her around the same time as the Shrimp & Petroleum festival. In which also has a traveling carnival fair group that provides, rides games and food.

Circumstances:
On February 19th, 1982 the partial skeleton remains were found by two hunters in a wooded area between Stephensville and Belle River, Nine Mile Board on the Belle River side of Highway 70.

It is estimated the woman had been in the area 3 – 6 months (Se0-Dec 1981) prior to discovery. The woman was found wearing a western style green plaid shirt women’s size 12. She was estimated as 5’4” with a possible body weight of 120 lbs. with short brown hair and a blood type A. The woman had been a long-term denture wearer as that the skull lacked teeth, however no dentures were located. Found with the skeleton was a diabetic warning bracelet, however no identification was included on the bracelet. The woman had suffered injuries prior to death, several compressed thoracic vertebrae’s, a cracked rib and a severe blow to the face. Reports indicated the cause of injuries may have been caused from an automobile accident. It is presumed the woman was strangled due to the absence of a bone in her neck and had been possibly raped due to the position the body was found. LE had no MP’s reports matching the woman’s description and presumed she is was not from the local area and that her body was brought here and disposed of or was traveling (hitchhiking) through the area.

In January 1985 St Martin Parish officials had possibly linked SK Henry Lee Lucas and Ottis Toole as potential suspects of raping and murdering the woman. LE suspected that Lucas and Toole picked up a hitch hiker along I-12 near Baton Rouge driving her to Stephensville, killing her and dumping her body. Lucas and Toole had traveled through the Louisiana between 1975 and 1982. Lucas had confessed to (4) slayings in the New Orleans area. All thou Lucas claimed to have beat an 81-year-old Metairie woman with a crowbar in 1982 that later was proven to be false

In January 2007 St. Martin Parish sheriff’s office revisited the 1982 cold case, due to SK Robert Charles Browne claiming to have killed more than a dozen people in Louisiana. St. Martin Parish sheriff’s officials stated whether the homicide was connected to Browne or someone else they are hoping to close the case, so the victim can finally rest.

Investigators should be looking into Belle River JD in relation to Samuel Little. The woman had received a blunt force blow to the face shortly before death. Little's has admitted he would punch his victims in the face setting them off kilter before killing them.

She was also found within a 40 mile radius of where Samuel Little was living. Question is was he living in that particular area in late 1981 to early 1982

The woman wore unique jewelry she also was wearing a wedding ring set that gives a little pause to say this may have been a significant other.

In all Samuel should be interviewed ... he has a photographic memory
