GUILTY LA - Suspicious blazes destroy three predominantly black Louisiana churches, 2019 *arrest*

Ugh. I dated a guy I worked with between high school and college who was in a band. I found out it was a racist, neo-Nazi skinhead metal band -

Horrible to think this subculture still exists in our nation among young people.

I think the interest comes and goes. As you know, Heavy Metal had a nose dive after the eighties. This plummet took a lot of the sub variant with it, including the racist types. But….it does still pop up. The Michigan anti Sikh rampage shooter was in a racist “black metal” band.

As a side note, the hate crime charges in this case appear to stem from an anti Christian motivation, not a racist motivation. The suspect had posted affirmations of burning down churches in "Odins name". Odin being a Norse pagan god. Likewise, the suspect notes that black people are overwhelmingly Christian- then advocates they return to ancestral religions.

Yes! He is superior and knows what they should do.

Why did he not burn down white churches!

Why did he not burn down white churches!

I don't know.

One white church in the relative vicinity also had an arson attack, but he has not been positively linked to it.

He could have mixed anti Christian / anti black motives. Or, the black churches may have been selected for being convenient targets (isolated location, no nearby homes, close to an escape route etc.). In short, I don't think there is enough information to give an informed answer to that question.

He complained about white Baptist churches. The proof is in the pudding

Louisiana man sentenced to 25 years for burning Black churches

“The churches survived for nearly 150 years but did not survive this defendant’s warped act of hatred," Assistant Attorney General Eric Dreiband of the Justice Department's civil rights division said in a statement.

He was sentenced Monday to 300 months in prison as well as three years of supervised release, and he was also ordered to pay a combined more than $2.6 million in restitution to the three churches.

As a side note, federal prisoners must serve 85% of their sentences (though accumulation of federal "good time" is near automatic).
As a result, he is looking at serving 255 months in prison, of which 6 months can be at a halfway house. This equates to 20 years and 9 months behind bars and 6 months in a halfway house.

Though people may make jokes about "Club Feds" of the kinder, gentler federal prison system, federal convicts serve far more time in regards to their sentences than most state prisoners do.

In the federal system, there is no parole possibility at 33% for non violent offenses and parole possibilities at 50% for violent offenses. Likewise, there is never any early release / over crowding in the federal system.

Monty, a retired K-9 officer who helped solve the arsons that destroyed three St. Landry Parish churches, has died.

In the church fires, Monty’s skills led investigators to discover the gas can used in one of the fires, which helped identify the suspect, and eventually connected that suspect to all three fires.

In 2017, Monty beat out almost 60 other K-9s from across the country to receive the ATF’s Top Dog award.
